Description

Dallas Afterschool is seeking an accomplished senior professional to serve as its Vice President of Development- a role critical in growing Dallas Afterschool’s impact on the region at large. The Vice President of Development will lead the creation and implementation of a comprehensive development program including marketing and communications; strategy to identify, cultivate and secure new donors; formulate and execute plans to increase community philanthropic partnerships; and ensure facilitation of all gifts from prospective donors. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, this position is responsible for leading a team in the tactical implementation of the marketing and development strategy and works closely with the CEO and Board members, while providing a high-level of internal and external leadership on behalf of the Dallas Afterschool.

Key Responsibilities include:

The VP of Development will identify, cultivate, steward donors, and solicit charitable gifts as well as maintain his/her own donor-revenue portfolio. The VP of Development will:

•       Provide strategic leadership to effectively communicate the mission, goals and accomplishments to donors, prospective donors, and the broader community

•       Build a donor base of current and prospective supporters utilizing Salesforce

•       Network and maintain regular correspondence with donors as well as work with CEO to develop leads and meetings for CEO portfolio of donors

•       Develop a fund development strategy to proactively identify, cultivate, solicit, close, and steward a portfolio of major donors to strengthen and diversify current funding sources

•       Pursue growth strategies for existing fundraising channels and identify new opportunities to expand organizational funding

•       Generate reports to track and analyze key philanthropy activities and results

•       Generate donor communications, newsletters, impact, annual reports, and agency website

•       Increase the involvement of current volunteers and Board committees as well as explore other volunteer structures to provide additional opportunities for donor engagement

•       Work closely with Marketing/Development committee of the Board

•       Plan and execute special events including annual fundraiser RECESS! and stay within budget

•       Develop annual fundraising budget and provide analysis and reporting on the overall performance of fundraising against goals and strategic plan

•       Stay apprised of advancements and changes pertinent to fundraising and development and direct and lead adaptations to current strategies and practices in accordance with these changes and as necessary

•       Ensure ethical and appropriate financial administration of contributed income, including overseeing the donor and prospect records, and following all regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact donations

•       Document and maintain departmental functions for sustainability/succession planning

•       Effectively manage day-to-day activities of the Development department; supervise and mentor staff

 

Professional Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of fundraising experience in Dallas with proven fundraising abilities with a particular focus on Individual Giving
  • Experience with Salesforce.com preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications/Marketing or a related field is preferred
  • MBA, MPA, CFRE preferred

Knowledge & Skills:

•       Expert level traditional and social marketing, communication and writing skills

•       Strong understanding of best-in-class grant-writing principles

•       Ability to present the Dallas Afterschool mission and vision to key audiences

•       Proven record of closing major gifts

•       Keen organizational skills and attention to detail in event planning and execution

•       Creativity and an appreciation of the role of philanthropy in building community

•       Proven ability to work as a team player with diverse groups and excellence in managing and developing teams

•       Highly motivated, self-starter with strong organizational skills and ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with attention to detail

•       Strong interpersonal skills both internal and external

•       Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

•       Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently and be proactive with approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability

•       Excellent time and task management skills as evidenced by a proven ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively as well as appropriate delegation
