Summary
The Tour and Docent Coordinator is primarily responsible for scheduling all tours and communicating with Modern Docents to affectively fill them. This role includes working closely and in sync with the Assistant Curator of Education who is in charge of docent education and programming. In addition to a focus on tours and docents, this position is responsible for recording and tracking data; maintaining calendars; and coordinating travel, accommodations and honorariums related to education programming.

Scope and Impact
The Tour and Docent Coordinator plays an important role as a significant representative of the Modern and specifically the museum’s Education Department through relationships built with the museum’s docents, other staff members and audiences through consistent engagement and coordination as related to the responsibilities listed below.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Managing tour requests
  • Assigning docents to tours
  • Communicating closely with docents regarding tours and docent programming
  • Welcoming tour groups and facilitating their division and distribution among assigned docents
  • Collecting and recording data in conjunction with docents and tours
  • Reporting collected data to other departments upon request
  • Managing the scheduling of education programming, including tours, in museum software such as Siriusware and Artifax
  • Representing the Education Department at the Modern’s weekly calendar meetings to coordinate scheduling with other museum departments
  • Managing the travel, accommodations, and honorariums of guest speakers or instructors for education programming as requested
  • Attending and facilitating tours and programs that are scheduled outside of office hours

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Art and/or Bachelor of Fine Art degree, or comparable experience
  • Ability to manage schedules and individuals as pertains to this position
  • Capacity for public speaking as pertains to this position
  • Ability to work diplomatically with colleagues and the museum’s audiences/participants
  • Experience with or capacity to learn the Modern’s software including Siriusware and Artifax
