About the Organization:

Living for Zachary was founded in honor of Zachary Schrah, who was only 16 years old when he collapsed during a high school football practice in Plano on April 2, 2009. There was no warning. There were no signs. After Zachary’s death, Living for Zachary, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established in June 2009 with a mission to raise awareness and prevent sudden cardiac arrest in youth.

Job Summary:

Living for Zachary (L4Z) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Marketing and Communications Manager. The Marketing Manager supports, implements and coordinates communication and marketing initiatives that help Living for Zachary position itself in the DFW metroplex as a top-of-mind non-profit for potential volunteers, donors and Board members. The Marketing Manager will participate in executing communication and marketing strategies by writing and editing emails, internal and external news stories, news releases, fact sheets, contributing new ideas to the overall creative process and being a brand ambassador.

Job Duties:

  • Manage social media channels and website; actively manage Living for Zachary’s online reputation
  • Write, edit and proofread content for e-newsletters, social media, websites, emails, digital signage, blogs, videos, and other communication vehicles as assigned
  • Manage the email database; tracking new contacts and unsubscribed contacts; working bounce list
  • Manage the development and production of communication documents as assigned
  • Partner with the Executive Director to design donor communications, solicitations and engagement opportunities to promote fundraising revenue
  • Assist with other communication and marketing initiatives as needed
  • Help with special events and represent Living for Zachary at speaking engagements
  • Assist with theme development, messaging, and scripts for annual events
  • Ensure strategic information and direction obtained from the leadership team are incorporated into communication and marketing initiatives
  • Continually track, measure, evaluate and report achievement of communication goals with a focus on recommending and incorporating improvements as appropriate
  • Assist with grant writing and work with Program Manager to identify new grant opportunities
  • Write and distribute press releases
  • Pitch local media to secure media placement
  • Plan and organize marketing and community awareness events according to the annual marketing and fundraising plan. For example: Lunch and Learns, Red Out Games, Cause-related marketing efforts with corporations and local businesses
  • Perform other related duties as assigned; handle additional projects as assigned

Qualifications:

Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of electronic and print communication processes including web content management systems
  • Knowledge of marketing concepts, principles and integrated marketing communication theory and practice
  • Knowledge of public relations tactics
  • Knowledge of Donor Database Systems
  • Knowledge of grant writing best practices
  • Knowledge of social media and Google advertising

Skills:

  • Well-developed writing skills for creating marketing, program content, and press releases
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Social media savvy
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet multiple deadlines while working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Ability to make independent decisions, demonstrate leadership ability, and build relationships
  • Must be comfortable working independently and as a team player
  • Preference given to individual with SEO knowledge and experience

Experience:

  • 2-4 years of successful experience in marketing and communications; nonprofit experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English or related discipline preferred

In addition, candidates will need to:

  • Work occasional nights and weekends as needed to support Board and community events.
  • Pass background check.
