Description

Position Overview: The Grant Specialist position is responsible for finding funding opportunities for the Agency and writing polished proposals to earn grant money. Their duties include researching deadlines, drafting grant requests, submitting approved grants, and submitting reports for approval.

Paid As: Hourly, Non-Exempt Full-Time Employee

Hours of Operation: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Monday – Thursday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM Friday

Reports To: Donor Engagement Manager

Committees: Board Committees as required

Grants: This position is responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with our donors, securing funds based on the annual budget, and maintaining accurate data regarding gifts and pledges received.

Major Gifts: This position along with the Door Relations Manager, Senior Vice President and CEO are the main points of contact for major gifts.

Capital Gifts: At the direction of the Donor Engagement Manager, works with an ad-hoc committee identified to help with equipment and vehicle replacement, building expansions, upgrades, repairs, etc.

  • Support the mission, vision and goals of Meals On Wheels, Inc. of Tarrant County
  • Represent Meals On Wheels in a professional manner at all times
  • Required to pass criminal background check and have a free and clear MVR
  • Contribute to other projects when necessary

 

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS

  • Identify and research grant opportunities from foundations, corporations and governmental funding sources.
  • Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the Agency and submit for manager approval.
  • Prepare high-quality proposals, narratives, applications, and supporting documents in response to solicitations consistent with agency policies and procedures, and the requirements and guidelines of funding agencies.
  • Submit proposals to manager for approval.
  • Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
  • Inform staff and answer questions regarding allowability of proposed expenditures related to all grants.
  • Manage all grant application and reporting deadlines.
  • Draft and prepare all grant reports, working with grant compliance.
  • Track data and prepare monthly reports.
  • Coordinate with grant compliance for grant restrictions.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with new funders.
  • Maintain positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders.
  • Retain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to remain highly organized, paying close attention to multiple deadlines.
  • Conduct ongoing research on the aging population by attending webinars and in-person training.
  • Coordinate with marketing team for client and volunteer interviews to provide unique stories to funders.
  • Coordinate with marketing department for necessary social media stories on grants/programs.
  • Collaborate with other departments to maintain a working knowledge of all programs and services.
  • Work with the finance department to create program/project budgets.
  • Manage communication with major funders according to manager direction.
  • Coordinate with donor records and finance departments for grant awards.
  • Draft thank you letters for awarded grants.
  • Coordinate in-person tours and meetings with funders.
  • Attend local fundraising professional events and trainings.
  • Possess strong positive interpersonal skills and will work alongside team members to obtain necessary information and construct written submissions for grant opportunities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, creative writing, or a related area

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Writing, tracking, and reporting experience on multiple grants simultaneously
  • Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process
  • Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of the Agency
  • Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources
  • Multitasking, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity
  • Working knowledge of computers

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in grant writing
  • Working knowledge of Raisers Edge preferred
