Texas Historical Foundation

Since 1954, The Texas Historical Foundation has carried out its mission of preserving the stories, culture, and traditions of Texas for the benefit of future generations. The Texas Historical Foundation serves past, present, and future Texans by supporting research and publication of Texas history, assisting in the preservation of historic and prehistoric artifacts and information, and raising and providing funding for those purposes. Since 1983, the Foundation has also published an award-winning Texas history quarterly publication, the Texas HERITAGE magazine, that educates readers about the state of Texas.

Executive Director:

The Executive Director of the Texas Historical Foundation spearheads the ongoing advancement of the Foundation’s mission, vision, and core values and works to advance the future of the Texas Historical Foundation through oversight of programs, fundraising activities, and the facilitation of the organization. The person in this role should demonstrate an interest in the preservation of Texas history and the importance of this work. S/he will manage the organizational operations in accordance with the policies and goals established by the Board of Directors.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the President, the Executive Director is an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the Texas Historical Foundation. In partnership with the Board of Directors, this position is responsible for the oversight, execution and refinement of organizational growth and efficiency, including fundraising, financial management, and communications. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build the Texas Historical Foundation’s visibility, impact, and financial resources.

Qualifications

We are seeking a dynamic leader with the ability to thrive professionally while addressing the unique challenges and opportunities associated with managing this organization. The ideal candidate will independently lead, while inspiring commitment from volunteers, supporters, and contractual partners. The successful candidate will have at least three-to-five years of nonprofit experience, with preference given to demonstrated interest or experience with a Texas history-based organization. Bachelor’s or commensurate experience required.
