Job Description

Job Title:                     Director of Education

Department:                Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC)

Reports to:                  Senior Director of Early Childhood Education

Hours:                         40 hours/week (including some evenings and weekends)

Position Summary:

The Director of Education is an integral member of the ECEC team overseeing curriculum, teacher evaluations, pedagogy, and camp.  Works in collaboration with the Senior Director of Early Childhood Education on all aspects of day-to-day administrative operations for the school.

Professional Requirements and Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, talent for working with parents, staff, faculty, and clergy
  • Strong organizational skills; capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously and moving projects from inception to project planning to implementation.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of community organizing
  • Knowledge of Judaism, Jewish education, and Jewish practices and values
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Master’s Degree Preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years Classroom Experience
  • 3-5 years Supervisory or Management experience a plus
  • Willingness to be flexible and available to work occasional evenings and weekends as required for special events
  • Willingness to perform job tasks not part of immediate job responsibilities but aids in getting the job done
  • Strong Knowledge of IB (International Baccalaureate) and Reggio Emillia Approaches

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for health, safety, growth and development of all the children
  • Complies with Texas licensing requirements and NAEYC standards
  • Creates a responsive environment for parents
  • Collaborates with other staff members of Temple Emanu-El
  • Builds strong relationships with private schools in Dallas

General Duties:

  • Curriculum Emphasis
    • Weekly supervision of teaching teams with a focus on project work and documentation
    • Actively participate in discussions surrounding best practices in Early Childhood Education and integrates successful strategies from a number of educational philosophies involving emerging curriculums, the competence of children, developmentally appropriate learning into our Reggio-inspired school
    • Plan and implement family and Judaic programs, parent education, school-wide programs, open house, and other special events
  • Professional Development/Teacher Education:
    • New Teacher orientation and onboarding
    • Plan and execute staff in service training days with guidance from the Senior Director
    • Identify learning opportunities for outside professional development, coordinate outside training for staff members
    • Develop teacher leaders for age group teams and facilitate professional learning communities
    • In class and outside coaching and instructional support for teachers (ex. classroom management, project based learning, inclusion strategies)
    • Collaborate with the ECEC Directors to achieve shared goals and expectations for teaching staff
  • Classroom Supervision and Support
    • To supervise faculty at ECEC
    • Observe classrooms and assist and/or support teachers in developing appropriate classroom practices and curriculum
    • Work with Senior Director to oversee, order and organize supplies for the school
  • Admin Support
    • Create, maintain and model highest standard for professionalism for welcoming parents, interacting with employees and managing work flow
    • Work with the Senior Director to create, manage and monitor a system for managing breaks, educator attendance, daily substitutes, and teacher coverage
    • Support efforts of Senior Director to maintain and update school records, licensing and NAEYC, including the accreditation process
    • Work collaboratively with the Senior Director in order to achieve goals for ECEC
    • Support the Senior Director in her endeavors and work as a team to provide consistent director coverage at all times
    • Participate in the development, monitoring and recasting of school budgets along with the Senior Director
    • Assist with marketing and promotion of programs
    • Administer Teacher Evaluations

Parent and Family Communication:

  • Be available to parents at pick up and drop off time
  • Answer parent inquiries, conduct tours and facilitate a smooth enrollment process using standard office procedures
  • Create, model and reinforce a positive, nurturing and respectful attitude towards families and children
  • Listen to parent feedback and incorporate it when possible into best practice
