Description

DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR

Join our team at the Southwest’s premier theater company specializing in the works of Shakespeare! Lead the fundraising strategy that supports fun, accessible indoor and outdoor performances and engaging educational programs for people of all ages and backgrounds.

As we begin planning our landmark 51st season, we’re seeking a development professional looking for a chance to make a difference each day. We offer a casual work culture, generous PTO, an employer-matched investment plan, health/dental/vision insurance, and an environment that prizes collaboration, autonomy, and innovative ideas.

You’ll partner directly with our Executive Director and board members to create and carry out a fundraising plan that will allow us to support our staff and serve our community. There may be future opportunities for advancement in development and other areas of the organization.

We believe that relationship-building is at the heart of development and fundraising, so be prepared to balance time in the office with meetings out in the community.

Inclusion: Our audiences and the students we serve to reflect the diversity of our city. We want our administrative team, contractors, and board of directors to reflect that diversity. We encourage BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and applicants from other historically marginalized communities to apply.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Execute and continuously improve our annual fundraising plan. Our contributed income sources include mail and online individual donor and sponsorship campaigns, fundraising events, corporate sponsors, foundations, in-kind supporters, and other partners.
  • Build and grow successful relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, foundation representatives, and others.
  • Collaborate with essential consultants, volunteers, and donors, including our Board of Directors and Development Committee.
  • Oversee individual donor solicitation campaigns and fundraising events, research and write grant proposals and reports, and track deadlines.
  • Work with the Executive Director to develop and manage our annual income and expense budget.
  • Manage all aspects of our subscription campaign, working with our Patron Services Associate to acquire, steward, and renew subscriptions throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with the board to plan Development Committee meetings and other event or campaign planning meetings.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Someone with demonstrated success in landing gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Minimum of 3 years of non-profit fundraising experience — arts and culture a plus.
  • Dynamic, strategic, optimistic, and prepared to build relationships both within the organization and throughout the community.
  • A self-starter and quick learner, comfortable working without constant supervision but eager to collaborate and work as a team.
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure, flexibility, resilience, and attention to detail.
  • A genuine people person who thrives on consistent stewardship and creative cultivation.
  • A researcher with experience and interest in donor prospecting, including giving histories, wealth indicators, personal backgrounds, and areas of interest.
  • A strong communicator, both written and oral.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and database proficiency.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Shakespeare Dallas.

This is a full-time salaried position plus benefits. The salary range is $50,000- $60,000 per year, commensurate with experience and other qualifications. Complete benefit package including retirement, medical/dental/vision insurance paid by Shakespeare Dallas.
