Description

The Development Director will be responsible for the development, implementation and management of all development efforts in support of the organization's development goals and mission. Specifically, securing a diversified range of funding sources to ensure long-term income sustainability from private foundations, corporations, and individual giving. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for ensuring full utilization of the existing donor database and executing special fundraising events.

In addition, the Development Director will be responsible for overseeing the execution and continuous improvement of the organization’s communications strategy to ensure that Bachman Lake Together’s impact reaches a wide variety of audiences via our website, social media channels, newsletters, and printed collateral. The ideal candidate will possess a hybrid experience of communications, social media management, brand management, and marketing development.

Development Responsibilities:

  • Implement and continuously develop diverse, reliable and sustainable fundraising strategy that includes explicit KPIs.
  • Develop and execute a robust giving program in close partnership with the Executive Director, and Development Committee, that includes existing relationships with foundations, corporate partners, individual donors, and active prospects, securing revenue of $1M-$1.5M annually.
  • Create and carry out action plans for grant proposals, corporate and individual asks.
  • Manage all aspects of the grant submission and reporting processes including gathering all grant materials, writing, editing, and setting the tone for and maintaining standards of excellence in writing, copyediting and presentation.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting of progress toward goals through careful and accurate tracking of institutional funds being sought and received, including multi-year grants.
  • Identify and research prospective institutional and individual funders.
  • Meet with existing and prospective institutional funders and individual donors to cultivate engagement and make solicitations.
  • Ensure timely follow-up on all grants and sponsorship gifts to communicate gratitude and provide documentation to funders.
  • Support relationships with foundations, corporate and individual donors, and other stakeholders as a second level of support for the Executive Director.
  • Monitor individual and institutional giving stewardship through year-round engagement and ensuring the appropriate follow-up occurs.
  • Coordinate signature events such as Strategic Learning Sessions and Giving Circle Luncheons promoting individual donor cultivation, including securing donor host, fundraising logistics, and execution in conjunction with the Executive Director.
  • Populate and leverage the donor database and associated reporting to facilitate constituent relationships management.
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Director.

Communications Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the execution and continuous improvement of communications strategy including social media.
  • Produce materials and tools to communicate regularly with institutional, individual, and prospective supporters.
  • Accountable for Donor Communications such as monthly newsletters, annual report, and other collateral, by supporting the Development & Communications Coordinator and leveraging an external Communications firm.
  • Work with the Bachman Lake Together Team to develop and manage branded collateral, presentations, marketing materials and communications; ensure consistent use of organization brand, mission, and messaging.
  • Support the community-facing communication strategy. Qualifications
  • Five plus years in a development position, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in a relevant field preferred
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
  • Supervisory experience

  • Strong experience in project management with proven success in leading, delegating, and moving projects into completion on a timely basis.
  • Success in roles requiring execution of multiple tasks while responding to multiple priorities
  • Proven ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, and good humor
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide array of people
  • Experience with donor data utilization including comfort running database queries and leveraging data for decision making and relationship management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including storytelling
  • Experience with collective impact or other forms of collaborative efforts involving partnerships of multiple stakeholders preferred
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in organizational settings
  • Experience with collective impact or other forms of collaborative efforts involving partnerships of multiple stakeholders preferred
  • Experience with spreadsheet and database software, budgets, social media platforms and Apricot (or database systems) required.

Bachman Lake Together guides a collective impact movement focused on community-level improvement in early childhood outcomes in the Bachman Lake neighborhood.
