Description

What We Do

Fortress is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving Fort Worth's Historic Southside neighborhood. Our mission, building bridges from poverty to promise, takes a dual-generational approach to equip our students and their families with the resources they need to attain long-term stability, health and happiness. Through programs focused on academic, social-emotional and spiritual support, our strategy is to help children and parents utilize their existing strengths and develop new skills to overcome barriers born from systemic inequities, generational trauma, and life circumstances.

What You’ll Do

As our Development Coordinator, you will work in tandem with the Executive Director to cultivate relationships with the Fort Worth philanthropic community, with the overall goal of raising $1,000,000+ in annual revenue. You will invite them to partner with us by writing grant proposals, hosting fundraising events, and reporting our programmatic outcomes. You will maintain our CRM donor database to track trends in giving, identify prospective donors, and sustain meaningful relationships with our current donor base.

You might do any of the following on an average day:

  • Create and deliver individualized thank yous to donors through email, direct mail, and phone.
  • Conduct research on a potential foundation and make an initial contact for the purpose of eventually participating in their funding cycle.
  • Write a compelling grant narrative, strategically communicating our mission, programs, budgets, and logic models to compel funders to support our work.
  • Solicit donations from local businesses to be used as auction items in our largest annual fundraiser.
What You’ll Bring
  • You feel called to serve children experiencing generational poverty and complex developmental trauma.
  • You are a gifted writer and enjoy the challenge of being both concise and compelling in your writing.
  • You are exceptionally detail-oriented and might even describe yourself as a “perfectionist” or “Type A.”
  • You enjoy one-to-one interactions with people and feel comfortable developing business relationships.
  • You have experience raising funds, writing grants, or managing donor relations for a nonprofit organization, or you have the tools and drive to learn quickly.
What We Offer
  • A starting salary between $35,000-$38,000.
  • Paid time off, tuition-free child care, opportunities for professional development, and complimentary lunch (we eat what our kiddos eat -- get pumped for chicken nugget day!).
  • Up to five weeks of built-in paid holidays aligning with Fort Worth ISD’s major breaks.
  • A work environment that encourages honest feedback (even when it’s tough), seeks progress toward racial and social equity, and upholds values aligned with the teachings of Jesus.
