Job Summary:
Ensures that the county-wide fundraising goal is met for the fiscal year as determined by the annual operating budget ;Plans, coaches and monitors team results; oversees and manages the daily operations and staff of the county fundraising team; plans, develops, and manages the individual, major and corporate gifts within the county fundraising team; oversees and/or coordinates funding from corporate and community relations activities and individuals within the county; provides oversight and/or coordination and preparation of proposals for all requests for fund raising appropriate to The Salvation Army, seeking out new funding opportunities for Army programs around the county; works directly with the Senior Director and team to develop comprehensive development plans that include the cultivation of major gift resources, individual gift resources, multi-year commitment funds, corporate and community fundraising and other strategic support in order to generate revenue to support the County; organizes and facilitates major gifts fund raising, corporate and community fundraising by board and council membership; builds relationships with high-level volunteers and organizations to develop, manage and execute revenue and in-kind generating programs for corporations, small businesses, civic, faith-based, educational and other organizations throughout the county; oversees the collaboration between the Volunteer and Fundraising teams to create opportunities for corporate participation with the County.

Supervisory Responsibilities (20%)

Plans, directs, and supervises the work of assigned staff; trains and instructs employee in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and provides hiring/firing recommendations.

Ensures all staff work is completed accurately and within established time frames while adhering to quality standards.

Fundraising and Activation Responsibilities (30%)

Achieves revenue goals by personally managing key individual and corporate accounts.

Personally establishes and maintains strong relationships with board members, council members, key community leaders, volunteers and leaders of key organizations and manages them to meet the short and long term goals of developing fund raising opportunities, creating individual relationships and organizational alliances and requesting financial support.
Develops and maintains accurate records of contacts, relationships and giving history for top individual and corporate donors.
Secures individual and corporate sponsors to support special events.
Collaborates with members of the Promotions team to ensure appropriateness of marketing, print material, electronic promotions, videos and solicitation of communication pieces, reports, presentations, proposals stewardship and cultivation materials for donors and supporters.
Identifies, cultivates, recruits, motivates and coaches all level of volunteers to assist in obtaining organizational participation through sponsorships, major gifts sponsorships, matching gifts and other giving from individuals and organizations.
Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship of Donors (20%)

Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards individual, major gift, and corporate prospects, using moves management concepts and best development practices and tools.

Prepares solicitation materials for prospects; accompanies Advisory Board and Council members, Volunteers, Area Commander, Managing Director, and Senior Director of Community Relations, DHQ Planned Giving staff as needed in support of visits with individual, major gift and corporate prospects for the command; updates and maintains contact reports on a timely basis.
Serves as a resource for donors or staff members regarding donor giving; leads the coordination of donor recognition programs for the area command; coordinates with assigned staff the fundraising and donor recognition efforts; ensures the recognition efforts effectively enhance individual and corporate donor relationships.
Supports capital campaigns efforts including those directed by outside counsel and maintains capital campaign files when appropriate.
Attends meetings and other community involvements as assigned, which are pertinent to the promotion and support of The Salvation Army and enhancing its development programs and projects; performs public speaking to promote awareness and support of Salvation Army programs.

Participates in continuing education opportunities, conferences and seminars to enhance professional growth and encourages/supports continuing education of staff.

Strategic Planning and Evaluation Responsibilities (20%)

Sets priorities for the County-based Community Relations and Fundraising team to help achieve fund raising and volunteer goals.

Plans, develops, coordinates and evaluates an aggressive individual, major and corporate gift program for the County. Establishes revenue, mission and personal development goals for fundraising team members; manages, motivates, coaches, trains and holds team accountable to meet established goals research, prospecting, cultivation and revenue.

Oversees the coordination of volunteer cultivation, recruitment and recognition for the county. Oversees the coordination of volunteer projects and encourages collaboration between volunteer and fundraising staff.

Assists in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating a variety of resource development strategies as part of the community relations team in order to achieve short-range and long-range goals of the department, the county and the Area Command.

Develops and directs or assists in additional fund raising projects as requested by the Area Commander, Managing Director or Senior Director of Community Relations; cooperates in all areas of mutual assistance as requested by or through the Senior Director of Community Relations. Directs the research, development and maintenance of current profiles on key prospects and top supporters; creates and publishes strategic annual relationship-building plans to ensure the involvement of strategic volunteers, engagement of prospects and increase revenue from current supporters.

Plans, coordinates and executes the recognition of organizational, corporate and individual supporters.

Liaison Responsibilities (10%)

Acts as liaison to prospects, donors, and external contacts; develops relationships with key donors and the local and broader community to enhance support of operations for which this position is responsible.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel and business management, team building and supervision.

Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same.

Extensive Knowledge of the principles and practices of fund-raising management.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of individual gifts, major gifts, and corporate gift administration

Knowledge of local, state and federal laws governing fund-raising and taxation.

Ability to plan, develop and coordinate programs, meetings and special events related to public relations and individual and corporate fundraising.

Ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate a variety of fund-raising strategies in order to determine their effectiveness in achieving short and long-range goals.

Ability to develop and administer a fund-raising budget.

Ability to maintain the security and accountability of donated funds and/or assets.

Ability to provide leadership to peers and subordinate development and fund-raising staff.

Ability to supervise, lead, motivate, monitor and evaluate employees and board members.

Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete and timely manner.

Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.

Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Salvation Army officers, employees, member of advisory organizations and the community.

Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, marketing, communication, or related field, with a master’s degree preferred

and

Seven plus years in aggressive fundraising environment personally raising $1 million plus in gifts, previous corporate fundraising and major gifts a must; three years supervisory experience; prior active experience in Interchange or relevant donor software and donor databases required,

or

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Certifications:

Valid State Driver’s License

CFRE (preferred)

Physical Requirements:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.

Ability to speak before small and large groups of people.

Ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle or personal vehicle to travel to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc.

Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints.

Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism and donor care.

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.

Working Conditions:

Work may be performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like but not limited to the office environment.
