JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Society Inc. (DABS) and the Dallas Arboretum Foundation (DAF) financial reporting, accounting, internal controls, investment, budgeting, cash management functions and various other areas of business administration including ensuring required information systems are in place and all computer systems are effective. Supervises the following positions: Controller, Director of Information Technology. Contributes to a team effort with immediate reports and Executive Team.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Financial Reporting and Accounting of DABS and DAF:
  • Supervise the following accounting functions: general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, cash receipts, cash disbursements and fixed assets. Responsible for maintaining DABS' records in accordance with GAAP accounting principles.
  • Oversee preparation of accurate monthly financial statements, projections, cashflow, and other financial information for the President & CEO, Board of Directors, various Board Committees and DABS' internal management.
  • Lead all preparation for the Finance and Administration Committee meetings.
  • Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual Federal and State tax returns. Responsible for DABS' compliance with all applicable tax laws.
  • Oversee preparation of DABS' budgets for internal management, the City of Dallas and Board of Directors.
  • Establish policies and procedures that will ensure good internal and cash controls. Monitor compliance with such policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring the independent audit of DABS' financial statements is conducted in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Oversee and/or train, evaluate, and effectively manage/schedule personnel, complete required personnel documentation in a timely manner.

 

Related Business Functions.

  • Review all contracts with financial or insurance liability impact or affected tax-exempt status.
  • Work with the Investment Committee to invest and manage DAF endowment and DABS short-term investments.
  • Monitor capital and operating expenditures for compliance with the budgetary process.
  • Work with third party administrators regarding the DABS pension plan.
  • Responsible for the adequacy and cost effectiveness of DABS' liability insurance coverage, including workers' compensation and Directors' and Officers' Liability.
  • Partnership with HR to manage employee benefits and payroll projections.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or accounting, or an MBA preferred, status as a Certified Public Accountant in good standing with the Texas State Board of Public Accounting preferred.
  • Six years responsible and related managerial/accounting experience preferred; three years supervisory experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills using correct grammatical and professional writing techniques; professional image both on the phone and in person.
  • Advanced computer skills--great proficiency with Office 365 applications including Power Automate and Power BI and relevant financial software applications.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, yet physically respond quickly to ticketing needs across the property.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed, including evenings/weekend
  • Driver’s license to drive golf carts on the property.
