PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Chief Development Officer leads The Senior Source’s contributed revenue efforts. The position reports to and works intimately with the President & Chief Executive Officer and will assume the Agency leadership role in fundraising with a staff of three direct reports.  The ideal candidate is growth and success-oriented with a proven track record in event, major gifts and annual fundraising campaigns.  The candidate demonstrates the ability to organize a dynamic constituency toward a common goal. Succeeding in this environment will require strategic and visionary thinking while at the same time, taking a hands-on approach to connecting with a broad array of supporters using traditional and non-traditional development methods.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop strong relationships with, and secure the trust and confidence of the CEO, key funders, board members, staff, community members, and others critical to the agency’s development efforts.
  • Play a hands-on, creative leadership role in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of major individual and institutional gifts; personally cultivate and solicit a portfolio of donors and prospects.
  • Develop and execute on The Senior Source’s Strategic plan, specifically taking ownership and accountability for the development goals and activities within the plan.
  • Set annual plans and goals for the agency’s fundraising strategies. Establish budgets and track and report on progress.
  • Provide staff leadership and partnership for the development committees of the Board of Directors.
  • Manage the team of three; assess and evaluate the success of the individual team members and the department as a whole; of; ensures that the department is well-structured and able to support annual goals.
  • Works closely with the Director of Marketing & Communications to create fundraising collateral, event branding and donor relations communications.
  • Represents the organization externally with prospects and donors
  • Other activities as requested by the President & CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Development:

  • Strong track record of developing and executing against annual plans and goals while managing budgets and performance
  • Proven ability to develop excellent rapport and work effectively and confidentially with donors, board members and key community leaders and to interact with them on a professional and social basis with ease and comfort
  • History of cultivating and securing large annual and multi-year gifts
  • Experience in relationship management and database software is required, ideally Raiser’s Edge.

Leadership:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required and ideally 10 years’ experience in nonprofit leadership
  • History of making decisions in a changing environment and anticipating future needs.
  • Ability to remain focused and organized under multiple and tight deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with customer service and team skills, are required.
  • People management experience required with a strong emphasis on building teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and time management capabilities.
