Position Summary

The Assistant Director, Communications and Donor Engagement drives the development and execution of a comprehensive donor communications and engagement strategy for Dallas College Foundation, ensuring that Dallas College Foundation clearly and powerfully communicates both its value and its values to current and potential donors.

The Assistant Director, Communications and Donor Engagement will not only ensure that Dallas College is communicating with existing donors in a proactive, collaborative manner, but will also ensure that that we have an active presence on social media, at conferences, and in the broader conversation around economic mobility, philanthropy, and higher education. This individual will create and implement a communications strategy that includes a blend of print, digital and in-person touchpoints to inspire and engage an audience of donors, prospects, and external stakeholders. The Assistant Director, Communications and Donor Engagement will work closely with senior leadership and report to the Senior Director of Development at Dallas College Foundation.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills; can work independently while appropriately incorporating feedback and review.
  • Can gather, compile, and analyze data/information and prepare reports as requested.
  • Familiar with key issues related to philanthropy, higher education, community colleges, eco-nomic mobility, workforce development and/or other subject matters that are important to donors and other key stakeholders; seeks new knowledge and tools to advance the objectives of the organization.
  • Understands the policies and procedures that affect clients and/or employees and applies them fairly and consistently; complies with local, state and federal laws and regulations; protects privacy and confidentiality of employees, students and others.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus three (3) years of work-related experience.
  • Official transcripts are required.
  • Special licenses or certifications may be required depending on the nature of the position.
  • Must have valid driver’s license if traveling to off-site locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads the development and execution of a comprehensive plan for Dallas College Foundation to inspire an audience of donors, prospects, and external stakeholders and maintain engagement with the current donor base.
  • As part of this comprehensive plan, leads the development and execution of an earned media communications plan, enabling the Foundation to reach key new audiences through print and online media, events, public speaking opportunities and other publications and outlets.
  • Creatively updates strategic plan to align with Foundation strategy.
  • Leads the drafting and production of all communications and stewardship materials. This includes both project managing the production of said materials, as well as directly writing/producing content across external marketing channels. Content will include, but is not limited to, website content, social media posts, newsletters, annual reports, executive summaries, cases for support and other donor stewardship pieces.
  • Directs the development of effectiveness measures for our communications to target audience. Monitors and evaluates these measures and proposes actions to improve them.
  • Works with the Dallas College Marketing Team to maintain consistent workflows and under-stand, advocate, and adhere to the brand and voice of both Dallas College and Dallas College Foundation.
  • Provides leadership in team building and problem solving. Mentors and advises other project team members as needed and accepts/incorporates mentorship and advice as needed.
  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
