Title: Director of Membership
Reports to: Senior Director of Congregational Advancement
About the Role
Temple Emanu-El seeks a dynamic and high-energy professional to lead its membership program as Director of Membership. This role focuses on creating meaningful connections for current and prospective members while fostering engagement within Temple’s core values: community, learning, worship, social justice, and Israel.
This action-oriented, innovative position requires exceptional communication skills, creativity, and a passion for building relationships. The Director of Membership will collaborate with clergy, staff, and volunteers to design programs, drive growth, and deliver outstanding member experiences.
Key Responsibilities
New and Prospective Member Engagement
- Develop innovative strategies to recruit and onboard new members.
- Conduct tours, intake interviews, and personalized outreach to welcome and connect prospective members.
- Plan and execute new member orientations and gatherings.
- Collaborate with the communications team to create engaging membership materials.
Member Experience & Retention
- Partner with the Advancement Team and Membership Committee to design measurable plans that will enhance member experiences.
- Attend Shabbat services and events to foster community connections.
- Collaborate with staff to integrate members into programs and activities that align with their interests.
Administrative Leadership
- Prepare membership reports and data analysis for leadership.
- Oversee budgets, dues collection, and grant requests for the membership department.
- Conduct exit interviews to assess trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure database accuracy and leverage it as a tool for engagement and retention.
Communication & Outreach
- Maintain up-to-date membership pages on the website and develop social media campaigns to promote engagement opportunities.
- Work closely with the communications team to amplify messaging and engagement efforts.
What We’re Looking For
- Passion for Temple Emanu-El’s values and mission.
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience in membership, recruitment, or admissions.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge is a plus.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Creative, energetic, and collaborative spirit.
