Volunteer Engagement Manager

Presbyterian Night Shelter is known for serving the homeless in greatest need: those who have no other places to go.  Those who present the greatest challenge to our community are welcome here. As the largest homeless shelter in Tarrant County, we serve approximately 1,000 men, women and children each night.

Job Summary

The Volunteer Engagement Manager is responsible for all aspects of Presbyterian Night Shelter's volunteer program, including recruitment, retention, training, and management of volunteers. This role ensures a meaningful and impactful experience for volunteers while fostering deeper engagement with the organization, including opportunities for financial support. The Volunteer Engagement Manager also represents Presbyterian Night Shelter at community events and outreach opportunities to promote the volunteer program and grow participation.

This position requires occasional evening and weekend work and access to sensitive information, demanding a high level of confidentiality and discretion. The ideal candidate is proactive, flexible, detail-oriented, and possesses strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive volunteer strategy that fosters meaningful, long-term relationships with volunteers.
  • Recruit, onboard, and engage a diverse pool of volunteers through outreach, public presentations, social media, volunteer fairs, and community events.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with volunteers to ensure satisfaction, retention, and deeper engagement, including encouraging financial contributions.
  • Oversee all aspects of volunteer administration, including background checks, placement, and scheduling.
  • Review and revise volunteer policies, procedures, and materials annually, including the volunteer handbook, job descriptions, and code of conduct.
  • Maintain accurate records in the volunteer database (Volgistics) to track placements, hours, and performance.

Qualifications

  • Three or more years’ experience in volunteer management, community engagement, or a related role.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Proficiency in volunteer management software (e.g., Volgstics) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for the mission for Presbyterian Night Shelter and a commitment to serving individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license required and proof of auto liability insurance.
