Description
Position Summary
The Marketing and Communications Writer is responsible for producing high-quality written content and project managing the graphic design process for print and digital publications that inform, inspire, and engage Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation’s supporters in the mission and work of the organization. This position reports to the Director of Development and Marketing.
Primary Responsibilities
- Write compelling, high-quality content for digital publications such as TPWF’s monthly e-newsletter, biannual Gear Up for Game Wardens e-newsletter, and biannual planned giving e-newsletter
- Manage all graphic design projects (digital and printed) from start to finish, ensuring that a high-quality, accurate, on-brand product is delivered in the desired time frame
- Serve as the primary writer for TPWF’s printed annual report and printed Leadership Newsletter, including writing original content based on brainstorming sessions and material provided by other team members, incorporating feedback, and producing a polished final draft
- Assist in annual review of all website copy, editing/writing new copy as needed
- Prepare copy for the annual Gear Up for Game Wardens online auction, including descriptions of all the auction items
- Collaborate with subject matter experts within TPWD and TPWF to inform copy writing process; adapt material prepared for other purposes (e.g., grant proposals) to suit different audiences
- Provide skilled editorial assistance, editing, and proofreading on a variety of written communications as needed
Secondary Responsibilities
- Manage and adhere to a comprehensive communications calendar that tracks upcoming projects and deadlines
- Acquire and maintain sound knowledge and understanding of the mission, values, strategic goals, and programs of TPWD and TPWF
- Adapt to the organization’s written voice, style, and brand
- Assist in preparing and sending mailings, including assembling materials to be mailed
- Assist in organizing, managing, and taking inventory of printed development materials
- Maintain constituent confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Preferred Background and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree
- One to three years’ experience in marketing/communications writing or a related field
- Advanced skills in proofreading, editing, and grammar
- Commitment to the ongoing practice and cultivation of creativity
- Experience working in conservation a plus
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Power Point
- Ability to handle an extensive and diverse workload while maintaining a positive perspective
- A strong work ethic, sense of urgency, attention to detail, and ability to think independently
- Ability to interface with individuals at every level of an organization, both internally and externally
- Ability to adapt quickly to, plan for, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced setting
- Strong initiative, self-motivation, integrity, and sense of humor
