Description
HOPE Tutoring has an upcoming opening for a Part-time Executive Director.
HOPE Tutoring has been offering free, individualized tutoring to children in grades 2-8 in Arlington since 1996. The organization recruits and trains volunteers to serve as academic mentors, and we provide supervised afterschool and in-school tutoring as well as academic summer camps. We are a recognized educational partner in the Arlington community, and we consistently seek new programming and program improvements to better meet the challenging educational needs of Arlington's children.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB SUMMARY
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and works in partnership with the Board to establish and execute major goals in support of the mission and vision of the organization. This position:
• Oversees development and administration of all program activities, including in-school and afterschool tutoring, summer camps, parent education events, and special programs.
• Oversees development and administration of all administrative activities, including volunteer onboarding and development and all human resource functions.
• Works in concert with the Board to formulate the organization’s budget and to raise funds to support the work of the organization.
• Implements and complies with all Board policies and procedures.
• Represents the organization professionally in the community.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Usually works in an office environment, but the mission of the organization may require non-standard workplaces and local travel.
• May work evenings and weekends to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and to represent the organization at public events.
• This part-time position typically is scheduled to work an average of 24 hours per week, but may work a specific number of hours per week as deemed necessary by the Board to complete the job. The Executive Director is expected to manage his or her own schedule to fit within the expected range of hours and needs of the organization. The Board of Directors may periodically review work hours and make recommendations.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university plus five years of work experience in a related field is required.
• Supervisory and administrative experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector, is required.
• Proficiency in information technology and the use of the internet as a management tool is required.
• Experience in grant writing and management is strongly preferred.
• Human Resource Management experience is strongly desired.
• Familiarity with basic website and database management tools, Microsoft Office 365, and Quickbooks is a plus.
