Development Committee Roles & Responsibilities

The Development Committee, a Standing Committee of the Greenspace Dallas (GSD) Board of Directors, is tasked with developing and executing an annual fundraising plan, aligned with GSD’s mission, which outlines the goals, assignments and processes for each type of fundraising. The full board must support this committee by giving a personally significant gift, attending GSD events, and introducing their circle of influence to the benefits of the GSD’s work. The Chair of the Committee is a board member. The committee is made up of board members, the CEO, the Director of Community Engagement, and volunteers.

Development Committee Chair Responsibilities

• Serves as liaison between the committee and GSD Board of Directors, communicating updates and decisions.
• Collaborates with staff to create meeting agendas and provide necessary research and information.
• Ensure that donor acknowledgement and communication is current and accurate.
• Facilitates committee meetings ensuring productive discussions and timely completion of tasks.
• Maintains regular communication with the Board Chair conveying committee recommendations.
• Provides written reports to the full board on committee actions, group meetings and discussions, and status of fundraising activities.

Time Commitment:

• Attend bi-monthly (every other month) board meetings.
• Convene bi-monthly (every other month) Development Committee Meetings.
• Attend occasional donor cultivation and/or stewardship events.

The Fundraising Committee's job is not simply to raise money. Instead, the Fundraising Committee is responsible for overseeing the organization's overall fundraising, and particularly the fundraising done by the board.

Development Committee Responsibilities

• Work with GSD staff to establish a fundraising plan that incorporates a series of appropriate vehicles, such as grant writing, individual donor cultivation, corporate partnerships, North Texas Giving Day, events, etc.
• Work with GSD staff in their efforts to raise money.
• Take the lead in certain types of outreach efforts, such as introducing a new donor prospect or chairing a fundraising event.
• Responsible for involvement of all board members in fundraising, such as having board members make telephone calls to ask for support and thank donors.
• Monitor fundraising efforts to be sure that ethical practices are in place, that donors are acknowledged appropriately, and that fundraising efforts are cost-effective.
