Position: Vice President of Advancement

Reports to: Head of School 

Classification: Full time, Salaried, Exempt

 

The Vice President of Advancement will provide leadership and strategic direction in all of the school’s advancement/philantrhopic efforts, including development, planned giving, external relations, and advancement communications. The Vice President of Advancement will work closely with the Head of School and Development Director to foster a strong culture of philanthropy throughout all school constituencies and will report to the Head of School as an integral member of The King’s Academy senior leadership team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees strategic plans that ensure the financial stability and advancement of The King’s Academy with a focus on sustainability.
  • Oversees short and long-term fiscal forecasting based on revenue streams, expected expenditures, and TKA’s mission.
  • Develop and implement both annual and major giving plans to successfully meet established fundraising goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Development Director and development team to develop strategies and achieve goals in both annual and major giving.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors and prospects to grow, strengthen, and nurture the donor base.
  • Maintain a portfolio of leadership donors.
  • Identify and attract corporate and foundation donors and prospects.
  • Oversee donor and prospect management systems.
  • Oversee gift processing by ensuring policies, systems and procedures built on ethical standards for soliciting and reporting.
  • Develop and manage the annual fundraising budget and work plan; track and report results to the Head of School and the Board of Directors.
  • Model a leadership style that is open, supportive, collaborative and respectful of all TKA staff.
  • Monitor, participate in and adhere to best practices in philanthropy and communications.
  • Attend TKA events, activities and foster significant pride and excitement for fundraising efforts.
  • In general, be a vocal and public presence among the TKA community as it relates to the school’s annual giving opportunities. This includes both formal and informal settings.
  • Nurture and maintain a highly collaborative relationship with the Head of School, the Director of Development, and members of the Board of Directors, supporting them in all their fundraising activities and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing Communications and the Director of Enrollment Management on strategic initiatives to produce an aligned, mission-driven messages to promote and enhance the school’s visibility and reputation, as well as generate fundraising opportunities.
  • Oversee the development of relationships with other institutions, foundations, and organizations.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Head of School.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Minimum of five years of nonprofit development experience
  • Experience managing a team
  • Trained with knowledge, leadership skills, and abilities required for the successful performance of the essential job duties
  • Managed a portfolio and ability to ask/secure funds from high level donors
  • Understanding of marketing and communications functions and strategies
  • Highly professional in demeanor
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Natural networker
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Well versed in Excel, Word, and donor software
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to respect the importance of confidentiality and trust as it relates to donor information

Physical, Mental Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Regularly sitting at the computer requiring repetitive finger motion and manual dexterity
  • Up to several hours of walking and standing during events
  • Subject to working more than required hours during certain event
  • Ability to manage multiple coinciding projects
  • Close visual acuity required for viewing a computer monitor, preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing and reading
  • Hearing – ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction
  • Talking – expressing ideas by means of the spoken word to convey instructions to students, parents and other workers
  • Ability to communicate effectively, even in stressful situations
  • Professional appearance and dress required, as this person is often the “host” of PCA-wide meetings and events Primarily inside, office environment with the exception of hosting or attending a few outside events throughout the year
  • Occasional lifting of 5 to 25 pounds

Other Considerations:

  • Year-round schedule
  • Occasional evenings and weekends required due to development events
