Managing Director

The Women’s Chorus of Dallas (TWCD) is opening its search for a Managing Director to manage all administrative aspects of the Chorus.  As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, TWCD promotes the strength, diversity and empowerment of women by performing high quality music to entertain, inspire and serve the community.  TWCD is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic leader with a passion for the performing arts. The ideal candidate will come with a proven record in fund-raising and audience development, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with experience with managing budgets and working with a large group of dedicated volunteers.

Description

The Managing Director supports the Artistic Director & other staff,  reports to the TWCD Board of Directors (Board) and is responsible for the overall management of all aspects of the administration of the chorus. The Managing Director works in partnership with the Artistic Director to develop, implement, and monitor strategies that achieve the mission of the The Women’s Chorus of Dallas.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Development and Fundraising 

Develop, coordinate, and execute a comprehensive strategy of financial development and support:

  • Plan and oversee the individual donor campaign

  • Plan and oversee all fundraising efforts including the annual TWCD Gala

  • Develop the strategy for cultivating, securing, and sustaining corporate sponsorships

  • Secure concert sponsorships for upcoming season

  • Oversee the preparation of foundation and government grant requests and reports

  • Develop materials to support development efforts

  • Establish and support committees and task forces to implement fundraising projects

  • Identify and pursue new sources of contributed income—individuals, corporations, foundations/grants

Marketing

Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to market the chorus and its programs throughout Dallas and surrounding areas:

  • Oversee sales of tickets and subscriptions with the goal of increasing the subscription base

  • Oversee development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing plan, including press releases, advertising, calendar listings, brochures/postcards, public service announcements, social media and other advertising

  • Implement and monitor progress of each concert’s marketing plan

  • Increase awareness of the chorus by corporations, grant sources, and the general public

Community and Choir Relations 

Develop an ongoing relationship with arts peers in the community:

  • Support the Artistic Director, BoD and TWCD officers in the administration of the chorus

  • Represent the chorus at community functions

  • Act as spokesperson for the chorus to the media, government agencies, corporate community, partner agencies and in the community

  • Support the volunteers in all aspects of choir activity

Financial Management 

Prepare budgets and manage financial operations in accordance with approved budget and governmental regulations:

  • Work closely with the Board Treasurer on budget preparation and approval, monthly projections, and anticipation of potential problems

  • Determine, with the Artistic Director, upcoming season and administrative costs

  • Prepare annual budget and variance analysis for presentation to board

  • Monitor expenses to budget line items; coordinate proper expense allocations with Bookkeeper

  • Comply with all local, state, and federal tax regulations and prepare and file reports as needed

Planning

Under the direction of the Artistic Director and the Board, oversee short- and long-range planning; engage board and staff in periodic planning sessions:

  • In conjunction with the Artistic Director and the BoD, prepare strategic plans and strategies for implementation

  • With the Board and Artistic Director, evaluate progress toward goals on a regular basis

Board of Directors 

Work with the Board of Directors and its officers to help them fulfill their functions:

  • Attend all Board meetings

  • Assist the Board Chair in developing and processing of agendas for Board meetings

  • Prepare written reports for presentation to the Board

  • Assist in identifying and attracting potential new Board members

  • Offer prompt and thoughtful responses to requests for information

Grant Writing

  • Prepare grant proposals for foundations, corporations, government entities, and individual donors that address identified organizational funding priorities and include a compelling narrative related to those priorities

  • Maintain an annual grants deadline calendar

  • Research and recommend funding opportunities from a broad range of sources, linking their compatibility with TWCD’s funding needs; work with members of TWCD’s Board to identify and contact key decision makers associated with granting organizations

Ticketing System Management (Box Office)

  • Manage the Box Office for TWCD’s concerts and events

  • Fulfill season ticket orders prior to the start of the concert season

  • Communicate the general box office policies to patrons and answer any questions regarding ticket prices and ticket sales procedure

  • Set up and run front of house at all concerts and choir sponsored events.

Office Duties:

  • Assist with office supply ordering and other office duties.

  • Make sure chorus emails are answered in a timely manner.

  • Other duties as necessary.

  • Must be able to be present once a week during evening rehearsal and some weekend events.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of three years of professional experience in development and fundraising for a non-profit organization.  Experience with a significant capital or endowment campaign is strongly preferred.  Knowledge of the Arts, in particular, Performing Arts, is a plus.

Candidates should have a well-rounded knowledge of and proven track record in major and individual gifts, corporate support, government relations, institutional support, and/or special events.

The selected individual will possess strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated capacity to lead and motivate volunteers, and adeptness in building consensus among a diverse set of stakeholders.

Candidates must be proficient with Microsoft Office and be technologically savvy.  Experience with and knowledge of the Dallas donor community will be viewed favorably. A strong sense of humor, exceptional interpersonal skills, and pronounced entrepreneurial spirit are a must.

A creative leader with an optimistic and positive demeanor, the Managing Director will be comfortable taking initiative and challenging preconceptions. This self-directed individual will exhibit a drive for excellence and will be motivated by a desire to learn and implement best practices to achieve ambitious goals.

This is not an exhaustive list and other duties may be assigned as needed.
