Vogel Alcove, a 35 year old non-profit in Dallas, whose mission is dedicated to the care and early childhood education of young children from homeless and domestic abuse shelters has an opening for a Mental Health Clinician in their NAEYC Accredited child care facility.

The Mental Health Clinician position will report to the Director of Developmental and Behavioral Services and work collaboratively with the social work team, Child Play Therapist, early childhood development team, and parents in carrying out our mental health program for families. The focus of this position is to address the effects that homelessness and other traumatic events through the process of therapy. A client has an opportunity to process their thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a therapeutic setting with a licensed mental health professional. The client will also be given tools necessary to navigate through various life challenges.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct assessments in order to lead to recommendations for the development of a mental health intervention plan.

• Provide trauma specific interventions.
• Meet for weekly sessions in a therapeutic setting.
• Work collaboratively with all team members to integrate assessments and interventions into the comprehensive plan for the client.
• Refer out for mental health consultation for further assessment or community resources, if needed.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Provide education, guidance, and support for families.
• Provide timely documentation for all clinical assessments, individual and group sessions, treatment goal development and progress, and discharge summaries.
• Maintain records as required by organization policies and regulatory and accrediting agencies.
• Maintain compliance with organizational policies.
• Participate in program, committee and other staff meetings as needed.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Effective counseling skills.

• Excellent clinical skills in developing strategic plans of care to address specific issues.
• Compassion and patience to work with adults and adolescents affected by trauma.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to listen and truly understand the client’s emotions and challenges.
• Ability to serve as a calm and efficient mediator.

EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in counseling, education, social work, or related field with experience working with parents and children impacted by trauma.

1-3 years in counseling.

Accepting LPC associates as well as fully licensed clinicians.
