Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Salary:  $85,000-$95,000

Founded in 1973, The Way Back is a faith-based organization committed to empowering individuals to rebuild their lives after incarceration.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Executive Director is responsible for advancing the organization’s mission by providing strategic leadership, fostering strong community partnerships, and overseeing all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, community engagement and program development. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director works collaboratively with staff, board members, community stakeholders, and donors to ensure sustainable growth and impactful service delivery.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Resource Development and Community Engagement:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to secure financial resources, including individual donations, corporate and faith-based sponsorships, foundation grants, and event-based campaigns to meet or exceed annual revenue goals.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with donors, corporate and faith-based partners, and community stakeholders to increase financial support and deepen engagement.
  • Elevate awareness of The Way Back’s mission and impact through strategic communication, marketing initiatives, and storytelling.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with organizations, businesses, and government entities to advance the organization’s goals.
  • Plan and execute impactful opportunities for community involvement, including volunteer engagement, events, and collaborative initiatives that promote The Way Back’s mission and expand its supporter base.
  • Act as the primary spokesperson for The Way Back, representing the organization at community events, meetings, and conferences.

Strategic Leadership and Program Excellence:

  • Develop and implement the organization's strategic plan to ensure alignment with The Way Back’s mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of innovative, high-impact programs that address the evolving needs of the population served and that are in alignment with funding.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through data-driven analysis.
  • Identify opportunities for program growth and expansion to increase organizational impact and reach.
  • Ensure alignment of staff efforts with strategic priorities to achieve organizational goals.

Board Governance and Leadership:

  • Partner with the Board of Directors to refine and execute the organization’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with The Way Back’s mission and goals.
  • Provide regular updates to the Board on organizational performance, financial health, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Board to identify, recruit, and cultivate new members, enhancing governance practices and board engagement.
  • Support the development and implementation of governance policies, ensuring accountability and effective oversight of organizational priorities.
  • Equip Board members with tools, training, and resources to actively participate in fundraising, strategic planning, and advocacy efforts.

Financial Oversight:

  • Maintain accountability for the organization’s fiscal health, ensuring funds are used responsibly and in alignment with programmatic and operational priorities.
  • Provide regular financial updates to the Board of Directors to ensure transparency and support informed decision-making.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align funding strategies with the organization’s budget.
  • Uphold the organization’s financial integrity.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

The Executive Director will be an experienced, innovative, and collaborative leader with a passion for advancing The Way Back’s mission. This individual will possess the vision, strategic thinking, and relationship building skills necessary to lead a dynamic organization and drive meaningful impact.

  • A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree preferred in nonprofit management, social work, business administration, public administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience in the non-profit sector, preferably social services or related fields, with extensive expertise in fundraising, donor relations, program growth, and community engagement.
  • Proven success in securing significant funding through individual donors, major gifts, and corporate or faith-based partnerships.
  • Exceptional skills in networking, communication, public speaking, and cultivating strong relationships.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and success in serving marginalized populations.
