ORGANIZATION:

REACH, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization serving North Texas communities in Dallas, Tarrant, Denton, and Collin Counties. The mission of REACH, Inc. is to empower people with disabilities to lead self-directed lives and to promote a barrier-free community through public education and advocacy. The organization is governed and staffed by a majority of people with disabilities who bring a wide range of knowledge and experience to their work in assisting consumers. Each year, approximately 1,000 individuals participate in the programs and activities of REACH, Inc. Services are financed through a combination of federal, state, local, and private funds.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Coordinates the Equipment Loan and Durable Medical Distribution programs, oversees the weekly group training sessions and coordinates the meetings and social recreational activities for youth and adults with disabilities. Also conducts outreach activities, peer support services and individual and systems advocacy services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Equipment Loan Duties

    • Coordinate all activities related to the Equipment Loan program
    • Provide information about all available resources to consumers in need of adaptive equipment
    • Conduct all eligibility data collection, i.e., doctor prescription, equipment deposit, etc.
    • Ensure that proper size manual wheelchairs are matched to consumer size and weight
    • Coordinate with equipment repair vendor to provide maintenance as needed
    • Organize and maintain the equipment loan storage area and clean all items as they are returned and prior to being loaned out to those in need
    • Maintain equipment loan inventory list
    • Maintain consumer service records with detailed documentation as to the status of receiving services through the project

Durable Medical Equipment Duties

    • Coordinate all activities related to the Durable Medical Equipment Program
    • Provide information about all available resources to consumers in need of adaptive equipment
    • Promote program to encourage donations to the program
    • Organize and maintain the storage area and clean all items as they are donated and prior to being distributed to those in need
    • Maintain consumer service records with detailed documentation as to the status of receiving services through the project
    • Work in partnership with appropriate funders to oversee hygiene/incontinence programs.

Adjustment to Disability Training Program Duties

    • Coordinate the center’s Adjustment to Disability training program. This will include conducting outreach to recruit interested consumers in need of these services
    • Participate in the weekly training sessions to ensure consumer’s needs are being met and record case note documentation
    • Maintain contact with the facilitator of the Adjustment to Disability training sessions, review his/her monthly case notes on each consumer that participates, and prepare a monthly narrative report for the Executive Director

Youth Transition Program Duties

    • Network with Health and Human Services and Texas Workforce Solutions Vocational Rehabilitation Services Transition Counselors to identify youth that can benefit from center services
    • Network with local school districts and the Region XI Educational Service Center to identify youth that can benefit from center services
    • Develop youth-related activities such as summer camp sessions, support group sessions, IL skills training sessions, social and recreational activities, etc.

Network/Liaison, Advocacy and Outreach Duties

    • Advocate for/assist consumers with their self-advocacy efforts
    • Advocate for system changes in the area of architectural barrier removal and accessibility
    • Conduct ongoing outreach activities to generate referrals for all the services you provide
    • Liaison with local groups to reach unserved/underserved consumers
    • Assist with the Center’s ongoing public relations efforts including mailings of promotional material and display the REACH exhibit at various events in the community

Miscellaneous Duties

    • Provide peer counseling/counseling to consumers as needed
    • Help answer the phone and handle information and referral requests as needed
    • Act as Spanish language interpreter as needed for the center

SKILLS & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Minimum 3-5 years working in a disability related field.
  2. Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional experience.
  3. Personal and/or professional experience with diverse populations.
  4. Experience/knowledge of the issues confronting individuals with disabilities.
  5. High degree of cultural competence.
  6. Bi-lingual in Spanish strongly preferred.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills, including interacting with individuals on the phone and in person.
  9. Advanced skills with Microsoft Office, Google Workplace, etc.
  10. Experience creating training content and curricula using universal design.
  11. Self-motivated and self-monitoring in tasks and duties, including managing short- and long-term responsibilities.

Benefits

This is a full-time, non-exempt employment position located at our Dallas office (8625 King George Dr. Dallas TX 75235) and is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.  This role does require that a candidate have access to reliable transportation and proof of auto insurance in order to travel within our service area.

REACH offers employer paid health insurance, life and disability policies; dental, AFLAC, Flex spending account, 403 (b) retirement, and other benefits are available as well.  We observe 12 federal holidays per year, have generous sick and vacation time-off policies, and an annual office closure between Christmas and New Years.  Salary range for this position is $37,000-$40,000 annually.
