Job purpose

The Bilingual Family Engagement Director will help Communities in Schools (CIS) of the Dallas Region develop and execute enhanced family engagement services that maximize our impact with the students we serve. This role will implement family engagement programming alongside existing campus-based services and will develop an innovative suite of family engagement services to be delivered by our growing family engagement team.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Execute family engagement programming
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement a grant-based family engagement program at five selected campuses
  • Create a welcoming, approachable, and technology-enabled space for families to gather on their child’s campus to learn about their student’s academic progress while developing and working towards adult-learning goals
  • Develop and deliver large and small group presentations and offer workshops to families to promote digital literacy, career options, and college-going culture
  • Recruit and retain program participants leveraging a variety of techniques including digital and physical marketing and relationship cultivation
  • Collaborate with CIS’ Program Team, campus personnel, and community partners to ensure services are additive and grounded in the strengths and needs of program participants
  • Develop and coordinate volunteer opportunities to maximize the reach of the program
  • Ensure technology is maintained and properly
  • Develop and lead innovative family engagement programming
  • Partner with CIS’ Innovation Team to flesh out a suite of innovative family engagement services that will be offered to CIS Site Coordinators to enhance their family engagement offerings
  • Hire and provide strengths-based supervision to 1 (or more) Family Engagement Coordinator(s)
  • Contribute to the leadership team at CIS Dallas
  • Collaborate for continuous learning & improvement
  • Partner with CIS’s Evaluation & Analytics Team to conduct community-informed strengths and needs assessments to ensure family engagement services are human-centered and thoughtfully designed
  • Collect, compile, and monitor program data
  • Actively participate in program evaluation and continuous quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

The following is required for this position:

  • A strong desire to work within a mission-centric organization that empowers students to stay in school and achieve in life
  • Bilingual verbal and written skills in English / Spanish (English must be professional grade; Spanish will ideally be professional grade but must at least be fluently conversational)
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, sociology, psychology, social work, or a related field
  • Three (3) plus years of professional experience working in family engagement, adult education, or a related field
  • Intermediate knowledge of child development and effective parenting techniques
  • Intermediate technology skills including general operations of hardware including laptops and printers and software skills in Microsoft Office suite, Google Workspace, etc.

The ideal candidate for this position will possess:

  • Professional experience (employment or internship) within an education-based nonprofit
  • Applied knowledge of human-centered design principles
  • Self-motivation including an ability to set goals, establish weekly and monthly schedules, and execute goals in a timely manner
  • Experience working with families from diverse cultures and economic backgrounds
  • One or more years successfully supervising staff

Working conditions

This position will operate primarily on school campuses with some office-based work. Campus location will vary by day and project. The ability to commute to our Dallas office and to a surrounding school in one of 14+ local school districts on a daily basis is required. This position requires a minimum of 7.5 hours of work per day and/or 37.5 hours per week, or more as necessary to meet objectives. Work hours will include evening and weekend work to accommodate the schedules of the families we serve.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry and otherwise move up to 15 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, or walk for various lengths of time throughout the day.
  • Ability to utilize computer equipment to complete daily work responsibilities.
  • Ability to operate fax/copy machines, telephone, calculator, and general office equipment on a daily basis.
  • Ability to travel for meetings, agency trainings and other miscellaneous work assignments within or outside the Greater Dallas Area. Reliable transportation is a must.
