Assistant Director of Development Job Description (Full-Time)

Reports To: Vice President of Advancement of Advancement

Overview: Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep is a Catholic, college preparatory school for students from households of low to moderate income. Cristo Rey Dallas nurtures and challenges young women and men of all faiths to recognize and realize their full potential as they grow to love God, respect others and serve their community. Each student participates in the Corporate Work Study Program which offers a weekly work study experience for all four years.

Anticipated Start Date:

November 2024

Purpose: The Assistant Director of Development works under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Advancement. This person coordinates and supports many of the activities of the Development Department. Some specific responsibilities include donor database management, grant writing/reporting, special events and annual giving campaign support.

This mid-level position will require strengths in communication, organization and time management. The Assistant Director of Development will act as a point of contact for correspondence and scheduling appointments with donors and other visitors. In addition, duties will include updating and managing the donor database to better facilitate donor relations and fundraising strategies and maintaining a relationship with vendors for needs of the Development Department. In addition, this position helps with Board of Directors management with minutes, presentation and other administrative duties to help with board communications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • A minimum of two years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a preference for independent school or higher education experience.

Responsibilities:

Donor Database Management

  • Maintain, enhance and update the donor database – DonorPerfect Online
  • Process gifts and prepare acknowledgment letters
  • Analyze development data to provide scheduled and impromptu reports for board meetings and appeals
  • Work with Finance Team to reconcile DonorPerfect Online with general ledger on a monthly basis Coordinate segmentation of database to manage appeals and reporting
  • Create processes to consistently identify new prospects at all giving levels

 

Grant Writing and Reporting

  • Manage grants calendar and deadlines
  • Work closely with grant consultant
  • Complete grant proposals
  • Collect relevant information and data to support in grant application process
  • Assist in fulfilling grant reporting requirements
  • Assist with other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Vice President of Advancement

Special Events and Annual Giving Support

  • In collaboration with the Vice President of Advancement, implement strategies for meeting annual, operational fundraising goals.
  • Plan, coordinate and assist with special events and donor cultivation events
  • Oversee, manage and analyze aspects of annual appeal solicitation efforts
  • Assist in coordination and management of volunteers
  • Coordinate and maintain the development calendar

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and experience in fundraising
  • A strong team player, demonstrated self-starter and motivational leader with excellent interpersonal skills, requiring minimal supervision and a desire to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a keen attention to detail
  • Passionately articulate commitment to the mission of Cristo Rey Dallas
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Suite; Proficiency in a donor database management system is a plus

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling donor communications and proofreading skills.

  • Excellent phone and customer service skills
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly sit, talk, listen to and interact with students, staff and donors
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time
