The mission of Catch Up & Read is to equip teachers with evidence-based literacy practices and proven results that give 1st-3rd grade children from underserved communities the reading foundation they need to succeed in school and life.

Catch Up & Read bridges the reading gap for at-risk elementary students by implementing evidence-based teaching strategies for students through a two-pronged solution: 1) Teacher training to raise the bar on classroom instruction so that every child receives high-quality, equitable education throughout the school day and 2) Teacher-directed after-school tutoring for low-performing students that reinforces learnings from their primary classroom. Our research-based, data-driven and results-oriented program trains teachers in the Science of Reading and social emotional strategies they can use while tutoring the lowest performing students each week. Being able to read on grade level by the conclusion of third grade is a recognized benchmark for predicting high school graduation rates. Reaching this benchmark enables children to break the cycle of generational poverty, earn a living wage and contribute to their communities in important ways.
