Job Type: Full-time  Please note that this position involves work outside of traditional business hours as needed, including some evenings and weekends, to ensure timely support and success for our initiatives and key events.

Position Overview
The Development Manager plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission of House of Shine by driving our development efforts and amplifying our message. This position focuses on cultivating diverse funding sources to ensure long-term income sustainability through foundations, corporations, and individual giving. It also includes overseeing the effective use of the donor database and orchestrating impactful fundraising events.

Key Responsibilities

Development

  • Design and implement a fundraising strategy anchored in clear, measurable KPIs.
  • Partner with the Chief Program Officer to grow a diversified giving program, cultivating relationships with foundations, corporate partners, individual donors, and prospective supporters to secure $750,000 - $1MM annually.
  • Craft and execute action plans for grant proposals, corporate sponsorships, and individual donor engagement.
  • Manage all aspects of grant submissions and reporting, maintaining high standards in writing, editing, and presentation.
  • Track and report progress toward goals with precision and careful tracking of institutional funds being sought and received, including overseeing multi-year grants.
  • Research and identify potential institutional and individual funders.
  • Represent House of Shine in meetings with individual donors and institutional funders, including direct solicitations.
  • Express gratitude and provide documentation to funders through timely follow-ups on all grants and sponsorship gifts.
  • Support the Executive Director by fostering relationships with key stakeholders, including foundations and donors.
  • Steward donor relationships with consistent engagement and meaningful follow-ups.
  • Leverage the donor database to maintain accurate records, enhance reporting, and strengthen donor relationships.

Communications

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Director to develop and maintain tools and materials that effectively communicate with supporters, funders, and prospective donors.
  • Lead donor communication initiatives, such as the annual report, sponsorship opportunities, and event promotion, in partnership with the Marketing Director.
  • Ensure consistency in branding, messaging, and creative design across development-related materials, in alignment with House of Shine’s identity. Work with the House of Shine marketing and development teams to develop and manage branded collateral, presentations, marketing materials, and communications.
  • Support a community-focused communication strategy that builds relationships and amplifies our mission.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years in a development role, ideally in a nonprofit, foundation, or government setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines efficiently and with flexibility. 
  • A talent for building relationships across diverse groups.
  • Experience utilizing donor databases, including running database queries and leveraging data, for decision-making and relationship-building.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, including storytelling, and ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in organizational settings.
  • Proficiency with tools such as spreadsheets, donor database systems (e.g., DonorPerfect, Salesforce), budgeting, and social media platforms required.
