Overview
The Director of Development (DD) at Family Compass is a key player on our collaborative team, partnering with the Director of Finance & Operations, CEO, and program directors to strengthen North Texas families and prevent child abuse and neglect. As DD, you’ll lead all agency development and fundraising efforts, supervise a talented team (Development Manager, Grants Manager, and Marketing & Outreach Coordinator), and work closely with our creative CEO and board. Duties
- Manage the development department; maintain on-going development operations, establish and achieve strategic annual goals
- Provide direction, guidance, support, and supervision to the development staff
- Develop and implement a comprehensive funding plan to meet the needs of the agency, which operates with a budget of approximately $2.4 million
- Work closely with the Board Development Committee to strategize and collaborate on all agency fundraising efforts
- Work closely with CEO to maintain separate and shared fundraising portfolio of prospective donors including major gifts and grant funders
- Proactively and accurately communicate and engage with key stakeholders to raise awareness about the work of Family Compass and its mission
- Expand and grow individual and major/gifts donor base and corporate giving pools
- Oversee, write, and secure funding for major gift proposals
- Support and work closely with Grants Manager by helping to identify new foundation funding sources, analyzing grant outcomes, executing corrective strategies on grants when necessary and building and maintaining relationships with foundation representatives
- Supervise and provide direct support for development staff for all annual event fundraisers including but not limited to North Star Luncheon, Lip Sync Battle, North Texas Giving Day and Annual Golf Classic
- Develop and supervise the creative and production process of the direct mail campaigns, event collateral, and other marketing materials, ensure all communications are brand-compliant
- Work closely with the finance team to accurately project anticipated cash flow
- Oversee and manage budgetary expenses for development department and events
- Develop and supervise recognition efforts and a well-coordinated engagement experience for donors
- Oversee public relations efforts at events or community outreach opportunities that promote funding for Family Compass
- Create monthly fundraising reports and other database reports
- Attend agency activities, meetings and trainings
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred: degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications, Social Work, or related field preferred
- Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive experience in fundraising and nonprofit development including budget preparation and management, executing fundraising events, cultivating sponsor relationships, major gifts development and proven relationships within the DFW philanthropic community
- Experience in budgeting, executing fundraising events, cultivating sponsor relationships, major gifts development and proven relationships within the DFW philanthropic community
- Previous public speaking skill demonstrated
- Previous supervisory experience required
- High level of experience in social media, marketing and public relations trends
- Experience in Raiser's Edge or similar donor database software
- Ability to work occasional weekend and evenings for donor relations and special events
- Significant experience in federal grants management (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience in improving internal processes to improve outcomes
- Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy with the ability to work with all levels of management
- Possess strong soft skills; collaborative, proactive, respectful, and approachable with a strong desire to learn and grow
- Cause-driven leadership skills
- Good organizational skills, ability and willingness to exercise initiative and work independently within a team framework
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to initiate and carry out work assignments while multi-tasking

- Expert computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
