Description

What We Do

Fortress is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization serving Fort Worth's Historic Southside neighborhood. Our mission, building bridges from poverty to promise, takes a dual-generational approach to equip our students and their families with the resources they need to attain long-term stability, health and happiness. Through programs focused on academic, social-emotional and spiritual support, our strategy is to help children and parents utilize their existing strengths and develop new skills to overcome barriers born from systemic inequities, generational trauma, and life circumstances.

What You'll Do

As our youth and volunteer program coordinator, you will work in an after school setting with our 4th-5th grade students to support their academic, social, and emotional growth through project-based learning, special presentations, one-to-one mentoring, and goal-setting. You will collaborate with community partners to match volunteers with organizational needs, with a special focus on the mentoring component of the 4th & 5th grade program. Finally, you will recruit and facilitate visiting youth mission groups for our summer program.

As a program coordinator, you might do any of the following on an average day:

  • Prepare and lead a faith-based devotional lesson for your students.
  • Deliver a presentation at a local business on our volunteer opportunities.
  • Research community partners who can lead a workshop on nutrition and cooking for your students.
  • Reach out to a volunteer mentor to discuss a student in need of special support.
  • Meet with a youth minister to promote our summer mission opportunity.

What You'll Bring

  • You feel called to serve children experiencing generational poverty and complex developmental trauma.
  • You like to wear a lot of different hats and consider yourself a jack of all trades.
  • You are a people person and enjoy building relationships with them for the purpose of educating and engaging them in social justice, poverty alleviation, and Kingdom work.
  • You can organize projects from start to finish and feel confident leading folks through those projects

What We Offer

  • A starting salary of $35,000.
  • Paid time off, tuition-free child care, opportunities for professional development, and complimentary lunch (we eat what our kiddos eat -- get pumped for chicken nugget day!).
  • Up to five weeks of built-in paid holidays aligning with Fort Worth ISD’s major breaks.
  • A work environment that encourages honest feedback (even when it’s tough), seeks progress toward racial and social equity, and upholds values aligned with the teachings of Jesus.
