The Dallas Symphony has a unique and exciting opportunity for an executive to lead a talented team of marketing professionals as Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  The essential duties of this role are to increase ticket revenue and attendance for all Dallas Symphony concerts and activities; to oversee the management of the DSO brand and brand promise; and to serve as a member of the senior leadership team. The incumbent will be responsible for $12 million in earned revenue as well as the design and oversight of the DSO marketing campaign.

Specific responsibilities include generating and growing earned revenue from tickets sales, program book advertising sales and other ancillary income; providing direction to sales and marketing staff to maximize results; motivating group sales, telemarketing, retail to establish revenue goals and tactics to achieve them; overseeing pricing, sales analysis and patron/market research; providing data and research to artistic department to help with planning; designing and supervising the DSO marketing campaigns for the Classical, Pops and Dallas Symphony Presents programs, along with marketing of community engagement and education programs; overseeing the patron experience; creating benchmarks for success and improvement; seeking and utilizing feedback and research to make changes for continuous improvement.

Additionally, the incumbent will collaborate with the artistic staff to provide quantitative data and marketing feedback for selecting artists to book for the Pops and the Dallas Symphony Presents series; provide pricing, marketing costs and sales estimates for pro forma analysis; serve on the Board of Governors Marketing committee; manage retail sales and increase profitability; provide oversight for the website and online communications to the public; and work with the senior team to make organizational decisions and to guide the organization in best practices.  (Note that this role does not oversee press relations or social media.)

The Vice President of Sales and Marketing will bring a substantial personal presence, with broad managerial competence and a special skill in strategic relationship building and the ability to clearly articulate the marketing strategy of the organization picture in any setting.  Also required is an undergraduate degree and preferably an advanced degree in a related field.  Additional qualifications include ten or more years’ progressive experience in Marketing, with at least five years in a significant leadership role; experience in developing strategy to promote ticket sales is a plus, as is a background in performing arts administration. The individual should be an active listener and an articulate communicator to all audiences with excellent computer skills, polished personal skills and comfort in formal and informal settings.
