The Student Support Specialist provides leadership and assistance to campus personnel and scholars
regarding student behavior management and Restorative Practices at their assigned Uplift Education
school. This role requires a deep content expertise in promoting positive student behaviors by leveraging
SEL-based intervention strategies such as Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Response to
Intervention (RTI), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Restorative Practices. The
Student Support Specialist provides direct behavioral intervention and case management for students
displaying challenging and complex behaviors in addition to consultation with campus staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Coordinates, develops, and maintains student behavior management programs and systems,
anchored in Restorative Practices, and SEL-based intervention programs, for assigned school.
• Manages the Student Support Team (SST) at assigned school through a Response to Intervention
model. This includes scheduling, facilitating and maintaining effective documentation at all meetings.
• In collaboration with Uplift’s Student Support Services team, assists with the development of MultiTiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) to provide effective behavioral interventions at assigned school.
• Serves as case manager for students facing significant behavioral challenges and coordinates care and
programming with other key stakeholders and staff, including parents, school leaders, counselors,
health services staff and other faculty.
• Serves as Restorative Practices champion for assigned school and facilitates restorative circles, student
mediations, and reflection time, while also coaching school staff on Restorative Techniques.
• Consults with school staff on designing and implementing behavioral intervention plans (BIPS) and
provides support on implementing these plans in the classroom environment.
• Hosts and facilitates Reflection Time (In School Suspension and/or Detention) anchored in a
restorative practices and social-emotional learning perspective, allowing students the opportunity to
repair harm they may have caused to the school culture, environment or relationships.
• Helps to facilitate positive re-entry meetings with scholars, family and school staff following
exclusionary discipline (OSS).
• Monitors the effectiveness of behavior intervention plans and makes modifications as necessary.
• Analyzes school discipline data and uses it to drive effective intervention strategies and Tiered
• Interprets and disseminates information from Uplift Education’s Central Management Office related
to State and Federal law, and Board Policy, as it pertains to student discipline and behavior
• Provides support and presentations to assigned school and community with respect to issues related
to student behavior.
• Develops and implements programs and strategies designed to obtain higher levels of parental
satisfaction with discipline programs and greater parent access to related services and educational
experiences provided by Uplift Education.
• Consults with school leadership team on providing proactive student behavior management strategies
in accordance with the Uplift Education Code of Conduct.
• Attends ARD/IEP meetings for students with, or in need of, a behavior intervention plan when

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree required, concentration in a related field of study preferred, specifically education.
Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work or Educational Administration preferred. Required
professional experience includes a deep knowledge of behavior intervention in the school setting and a
belief in the effectiveness of restorative practices, SEL and evidence-based intervention techniques.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and
procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze and apply common sense to understand and to carry out
instructions in written or oral form. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel,
students, and parents required.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draws valid conclusions
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only
limited standardization exists. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out a variety of
instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be competent in Microsoft Office applications and
ability to learn and use computer software as necessary. Ability to use basic office equipment.
