DEPARTMENT: External Affairs

REPORTS TO: Director of Philanthropy

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

HOURS: Full-time, standard workweek with occasional nights and weekends

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in a related field

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Able to lift up to 30lbs, able to work part or all of a shift sitting, standing and walking, able to safely operate office machinery.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Professional business setting.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Philanthropy Officer, Individual Giving is responsible for creating, implementing and overseeing all annual giving programs with the goal to cultivate and steward individual donors. Use analytical and fundraising skills to recognize opportunities, identify critical, high pay-off activities and prioritize them to attain goals. Will work closely with the External Affairs team to increase support from individual donors and help Promise House expand its programming reach for homeless and runaway youth.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

INDIVIDUAL DONOR ENGAGEMENT

  • Work closely with the Director of Philanthropy and the Chief Philanthropy Officer to develop and implement a strategy to identify, cultivate, and solicit new donor prospects and renew existing individual donors to achieve annual fundraising goals
  • In conjunction with the Director of Philanthropy, manage all aspects of all direct mail solicitations targeting individual donors. Responsibilities include generating content for solicitation pieces and using Raiser’s Edge data to generate a distribution list
  • In conjunction with the Director of Philanthropy, create social media content and manage social media posting to attract and retain individuals
  • Using email marketing platform, create compelling online solicitation campaigns to attract new donors and encourage existing supporters to renew their gifts
  • Work in conjunction with the Director of Philanthropy and the Chief Philanthropy Officer to create and administer moves management plans designed to increase donors’ commitment to the organization
  • Assist with Promise House events, managing individual engagement and creating follow-up plans to steward event attendees focused on moving these prospects up the donor pyramid
  • Research prospective donors using wealth screening tools and online resources
  • Analyze, measure and report on success of the annual fund campaign using the report function of Raiser’s Edge
  • Communicate agency milestones to Promise House supporters via targeted phone calls, emails and letters
  • Attend check presentations and off-site trainings as needed
  • Assist with development site visits
  • Collaborate on gift acknowledgement and donor recognition
  • Record critical donor information in Raiser’s Edge as instructed

OTHER DEVELOPMENT DUTIES

  • Actively participate in major special events (i.e., Annual Golf Classic and Promise to Care) and attend others as required
  • Edit external agency communications as assigned
  • Attend monthly development staff meetings and report on projects

JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Three to five years previous experience (including internships) in nonprofit fundraising, account management, sales, customer service, or other related field
  • First-rate organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Extremely comfortable cold calling prospective agency supporters
  • Experience creating and managing social media and e-marketing content
  • Strong writing skills, including more formal styles of writing (email solicitations, presentations) and informal (social media)
  • Presentation skills, including creating supplemental materials (with PowerPoint, Publisher, Canva, Adobe InDesign or Illustrator) and delivering compelling content
  • Understands person-to-person relationships and has the ability to convincingly articulate needs and goals that motivate potential donors to make gifts
  • Critical thinking skills, problem-solving initiative, and professional accountability for quality of work and adherence to deadlines
  • Organized self-starter capable of coordinating multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or a similar constituent relationship management system
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Passion for the Promise House mission
