The Institutional Giving Manager serves as part of a Resource Development team that focuses principally on institutional sources of giving. The Institutional Giving Manager contributes to the overall development program success by being accountable for planning, implementing, growing, and evaluating a portfolio of local and national donors, prospects, and projects. They proactively identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundation, corporate, and government donor prospects and works to develop and implement creative strategies to secure funds through grants and sponsorships to meet SMU DataArts's annual needs and campaign fundraising goals. This includes crafting funding requests as well as research proposals.  They develop strong donor relationships to ensure the financial sustainability of the organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Conceptualize, research, write, and submit letters of inquiry, grant and sponsorship proposals, reports, updates, and budgets in consultation with program, finance, and executive staff as well as other SMU departments. Manage grant application and reporting processes, tracking deadlines and coordinating staff input to ensure that grants and reports are submitted in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Identify and conduct research on new foundation, corporate, and government sources and develop contact and cultivation strategies for them, including working with trustees and other volunteers to forge relationships. Develop presentations, institutional giving briefs, agendas, and background materials for meetings with current and prospective donors.
  • In collaboration with SMU DataArts Director of Development & Partnerships, articulate a compelling case for support; design and execute the DataArts's fundraising plan for raising annual operating, special project, and campaign revenue. Manage a portfolio of approximately 30 to 40 donors and new prospects; plan and implement individual cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and renewal strategies.
  • Contribute to the development and packaging of funding opportunities, annual and campaign fundraising projections. Regularly monitor and report progress toward short- and long-term fundraising goals .
  • Maintain up-to-date corporate, foundation, and government donor and prospect records in Salesforce.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in grant writing and institutional fundraising, including foundation research, outreach to grant officers, and cultivation and stewardship of foundation, corporate, and government donors and prospects, or commensurate related experience.
  • A broad knowledge of nonprofit resource development principles and practices, including all aspects of institutional fundraising, with a strong background in identifying, qualifying, and developing relationships with donors and prospects, as well as securing five and six-figure gifts; grants, and sponsorships.
  • Experience considering the impacts of work on multiple communities.
  • Experience working on a diverse team.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Insightful, articulate and persuasive communicator who is committed to the support of advancement.
  • Ability to think collaboratively, strategically and creatively while participating in decision-making.
  • Ability to use web-based technology and system tools to keep in touch from remote locations as the position may require travel, communication and reporting while away from the office.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Experience using Blackbaud Enterprise CRM or other relational CRM database software.

Physical/Environmental Demands:

  • Bend, stand

  • Reach above shoulders, handle objects

  • Carry/lift 25 lbs.

  • Sit for long periods of time
