Financial & Employment Coach (Full-time)

The Financial and Employment Coach seeks to help “neighbors” of the Mansfield Mission Center (MMC) break the cycle of poverty and create greater hope for the future by meeting their financial, relational, and physical needs.  The Financial and Employment Coach is primarily responsible for building relationships with low to moderate income Mansfield ISD residents in support of their positive financial behavior change leading to long-term financial stability. Through regularly scheduled meetings, the coach acts as an accountability partner as the neighbor develops and completes their future-focused and action-driven goals. Reporting to the Financial Empowerment Manager, the Financial and Employment Coach will accomplish these tasks through application of the Working Family Success (WFS) Model. The model centers around organizational delivery of wrap-around employment, income support, and financial coaching services.

The Financial and Employment Coach will report directly to the Financial Empowerment Manager and work closely with other program team members and locations, including our clinic and pantry.

Job Responsibilities:

The following is a list of related job tasks however, others may be assigned as needed:

Financial Coaching (55%)

  • Provide financial and employment coaching to individuals in group and/or one-on-one setting
  • Collaborate with program participants in identifying and achieving goals related to their unique financial, physical, and relational needs
  • Be highly motivated to assist low to moderate income families and individuals change behaviors to move out of crisis, become financially stable, and begin to build assets
  • Build rapport with Mission Center neighbors
  • Assist neighbors with needs related to obtaining employment: resume preparation, mock interviews, job search, and job leads
  • Using the Change Machine platform as a coaching tool, develop action plans to assist neighbors with their specific financial goals related to credit, debt management, monthly budgeting, employment, savings, education, and asset accumulation
  • Work to keep neighbors engaged in coaching process and moving towards goal completion
  • Provide neighbors with instructions on pulling and reviewing credit report and/or credit score
  • Make appropriate referrals and integrate wrap-around supports with other family members, agencies, companies or providers as needed to meet neighbor-centered goals
  • Maintain neighbor files, monitor and report neighbor outcomes monthly using MMC metrics procedures
  • Lead financial literacy classes and employment workshops for community members
  • Provide Program Coordinator with existing neighbor referrals to MMC events and/or classes as appropriate
  • Pray with neighbors when requested

Program Management (20%)

  • Work closely with Financial Empowerment Manager on ways to positively engage neighbors towards participation in MMC bundled-services program approach
  • Using Mission Center criteria, approve interest free loans for qualified neighbors
  • Work with Financial Empowerment Program Manager to design and implement strategies for improving repayment rates of interest free loans
  • Work with Financial Empowerment Program Manager on implementation of and assistance with other MMC or community-related programs

Crisis Care (15%)

  • Work with MMC Neighbor Advocate to provide referrals to external agencies for neighbor needs outside of MMC scope
  • Work with 3rd party vendors to make financial assistance payments on behalf of neighbors

Special Activities (10%)

  • Participate in community events on behalf of MMC as directed to build relationships with financial services and employment stakeholders in DFW area to meet neighbor needs
  • Attend community awareness and fundraising events as directed by the Executive Director.
  • Participate in training and ongoing professional development

The Financial Empowerment Coach should ideally possess the following professional qualifications and personal attributes:

  • Confidence and enthusiasm when communicating to both external and internal stakeholders
  • Passion for advocating on behalf of marginalized, high needs and low-income neighbors
  • Enthusiastic approach to work, including the humility and grace to work effectively with others in a collaborative workplace
  • High degree of professionalism and ability to uphold confidentiality
  • Possess a high level of energy, self-motivation, and strong personal boundaries
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
  • Christian faith background and ability to use Christ centered concepts to serve the poor
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to serve the community and coach individuals through areas of behavior change
  • A basic knowledge of predatory lending issues
  • A demonstrated knowledge of best practices related to credit building and repair, debt reduction, budgeting, and money management skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college, preferably in areas of Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Social Work, or a related field required
  • 5+ years relevant work experience or training in areas of financial education, coaching, employment assistance, or social service delivery required
  • Prior case management or one-on-one client services delivery experience required
  • Prior financial coaching or experience with Working Families Success (WFS) model preferred
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish).
  • Prior employment or extensive volunteer experience in a social service nonprofit environment preferred
  • Master’s Degree preferred
