Organizational Overview:

Founded in 2014, Design Connect Create is a non-profit that envisions an equal number of women and men of all races/ethnicities and all social classes pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) careers. Its mission is to empower young women, especially minorities to be successful in STEM courses in high school. We do this by delivering a summer physics camp program which have been offered to young women since 2003. These camps increase their passion for the challenges and rewards of a STEM career, increase their academic performance in STEM courses and increase the number of women pursuing STEM majors in college.

Job Description

The Board of Directors desires to build on the early expansion success by hiring an Executive Director (ED) to develop and deliver a plan for tripling the number of clients served and amount funds raised in 3 years. The ED will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for growing Design Connect Create staff, programs, and execution of its mission. S/he will initially develop deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, and business plans.


The ED will be responsible for outreach, program delivery and building relationships with key stakeholders in order to effectively scale the programs to the next level. The ED will oversee the development of the annual budget and evaluate the organization’s fundraising strategy and strategic communication plan. This position will report to the Board of Directors.



Leadership and Management

  • Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems
  • Build strong relationships with partners, donors, volunteers, alumni and board members
  • Maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors and serve as ex-officio of each committee
  • Work with the Finance Committee in preparing a budget; ensures that the organization operates within budget guidelines
  • Hire staff to deliver and expand the STEM summer programs that operate annually in June and July
  • Review and improve program measurement and evaluation to effectively communicate successes to the board, donors and partners

Fundraising and Communications

  • Cultivate new individual donors and grant opportunities to increase annual revenue
  • Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand
  • Be an external local presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and state replication
  • Hire contractors to generate online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable results and develop all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters and brochures


  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience with at least a Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing Board member relationships
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on doing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
  • Passion, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
  • Must pass background check
