PURPOSE: To serve the church by developing, leading, and supporting programs and fostering relationships that contribute to the wellbeing and spiritual growth of children and families while working within the spirit of the Church’s vision statement and mission goals.
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Director of Children’s Ministry shall be directly responsible to the Associate Pastor for Discipleship and to the Staff Committee. The Associate Pastor will review the performance of the Director of Children’s Ministry in accordance with procedures established by the Staff Committee.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Children’s Ministry will work with church staff, the Children’s Ministry Team, and the Discipleship Council to perform the following duties:
1. Direct ministry for children (birth to 6th grade) in coordination with the Children’s Ministry Team, placing a high priority on participation and engagement, developing lay leadership, and nurturing relationships with children and families.
2. Oversee the development of educational curricula, alongside the children’s committee, that fits the Church’s programs and is theologically sound and developmentally appropriate.
3. Recruit and train lay leadership from the larger church community for Children’s Ministry programs and the Children’s Ministry Team.
4. Coordinate with other staff concerning the ways all ministries affect the lives of children and families, particularly coordinating with the Parish Associate for Families, serving as an advocate for children and families.
5. Lead programming to support children and their families, such as VBS, Sunday School, Super Happy Fun Week, parent outreach, baptism, etc.
6. Oversee the hiring and supervision of PHPC childcare staff staff.
7. Facilitate the relationship between the church and the school including, but not limited to coordinating space, leading weekly chapel with PHPS, monthly pres-school services with PHPPS, and PDO as able.
8. Manage the Children’s ministry budget.
9. Communicate matters involving Children’s Ministry- internally to families, as well as externally to the church and community at large.
10. Collaborate with youth team staff to bridge a transition from children’s to youth ministry.
11. Attend continuing education events in support of your ministry.
12. Maintain office hours in consultation with the Associate Pastor for Discipleship. Attend and participate in all required trainings and meetings.
13. Serve the larger church through Grace Presbytery, Synod of the Sun, and the PC(USA).
14. Execute other appropriate requests made by the Associate Pastor.

Required Schedule: Work week is normally Sunday and four other weekdays with some evening meetings and occasional Saturdays.
