This position will serve as the primary development officer for grant proposal development and writing, as well as stewardship of institutional donors.  The Development Officer for Institutional Giving will identify, cultivate, solicit, secure and steward institutional support.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Generate revenue through developing, preparing and submitting compelling, high-quality grant and gift proposals.
  • Engage Big Thought leaders with institutional giving prospects as part of the cultivation and solicitation process.
  • Manage and adhere to a comprehensive proposal calendar that tracks submissions, upcoming deadlines, and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts within Big Thought to inform proposal development process and to ensure compliance with all funder requirements.
  • Identify, research and analyze new and existing institutional donors and prospects for gift cultivation and solicitation.
  • Engage with funders as appropriate to customize proposals to increase award potential and gather constructive feedback regarding non-funded proposals.
  • Monitor proposal progress ensuring receipt by funders and tracking funding award decisions.
  • Enter and maintain relevant data in database.
  • Participate as assigned in other advancement-related activities and events.

Required Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in Fundraising or Government Grant-writing.
  • Experience in Donor or Customer CRM. Experience in Salesforce a plus.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft office including Power Point, Word and Excel. May be tested.
  • High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative.
  • Ability to interface with individuals at every level of an organization, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to, plan for, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced setting.

  • work in environment with loud sounds, multiple distractions and interruptions
  • assist with logistics of special events, mailings or other fundraising activities
  • occasionally work after normal business weekday hours or on weekend(s)
