Position Title: Development Director

Reports to: President/CEO

Department: Advancement

Position Summary: In partnership with the President/CEO, plan, administer, and oversee all fundraising, marketing and communication activities of Texas Center for Arts + Academics (TCAA). As a key member of the Advancement team, this individual leads collaboratively by demonstrating great passion for our mission, while investing in personal connections and increasing stakeholder engagement within the organization and throughout our greater community.

Essential Job Functions: Be accountable to all key stakeholders, including students and families, donors, volunteers, the general public, staff and faculty, board of directors, et al.

  • Drive progress toward mission, vision and core values by setting benchmarks and goals to develop and reach fundraising, marketing and communication initiatives
  • Work with President/CEO on fundraising for TCAA annual goals, capital goals and programs in order to achieve both short- and long-term objectives
  • Oversight of the Advancement Team and work with Communications Manager on marketing and communication initiatives towards TCAA goals and objectives
  • Design and implement fundraising, marketing and communications efforts in order to raise funds, awareness and enrollment through relationship management, public relations campaign, social media and other avenues
  • Build relationships and partnerships through collaboration and teamwork within the educational, philanthropic and arts communities and through the organization’s constituency
  • Budget and manage all fundraising, marketing and communication initiatives and expenses including:
    • Government and foundation grants
    • Corporate and business sponsorships
    • Individual gifts
    • Major, capital, annual, and planned gifts
    • Special events
    • Public relations efforts
  • Create reports and present updates to leadership and governing bodies
  • With the President/CEO, recruit, train, develop and provide administrative support for the Board of Directors, specifically in the area of fundraising, marketing and communications
  • Attend events and performances during evenings and weekends, as needed

  • Supervision: Communications Manager, Annual Fund Manager

Fundraising and Advancement: Ensure diversity of revenue and demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of income generation through annual fund activities, including grant writing, fundraising, special events, donor solicitations and more. Create programs and activities that help interest and engage participation and gift givers.

  • Develop, organize, and execute approved fundraising programs, individual, corporate and foundation gifts, special events, planned giving, bequests, and/or other methods approved by the Board of Directors
  • Evaluate, establish and meet fundraising goals for operational needs
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects as appropriate. Manage a personal portfolio of prospects
  • Establish relationships that provide lasting value
  • Prepare volunteers and staff for solicitation of gifts from identified sources as required, and participate, when appropriate in making solicitations
  • Supervise the development and continued maintenance and integrity of TCAA’s donor base as an effective donor prospect cultivation and management tool
  • Assure maintenance and implementation of gift acceptance policies of TCAA to include proper accounting of funds, acknowledgment, proper stewardship of gifts and donor recognition

Communications and Marketing:  Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of marketing and communication strategies that are effective and targeted at fundraising, community-wide awareness, and organizational promotion.

  • Oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications and marketing plan
  • Working with the Communications Manager, establish measureable goals

Essential Job Requirements:

  • At least 5-7 years nonprofit fundraising, marketing and communications experience, with a track record of success in major gifts solicitation, relationship management, and organizational promotion.
  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning; a graduate degree or professional fundraising certification (CFRE) preferred
  • Experience in donor-centered fundraising, managing individual giving program, donor stewardship and benefits programs, foundations and major gifts, preference given to those with arts and/or education experience
  • Personal track record of integrity and long history of personal and professional fiscal responsibility is essential
  • Must be a seasoned individual to serve as a point of contact for TCAA with the innate ability to quickly win the confidence of others, good judgment, effective communication skills (oral and written), good customer service and follow-up, and a high degree of self-confidence
  • Ability to build upon the current program and work collaboratively with a diverse team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and presenting
  • Experience with donor databases, CRM software and MS Office
  • Physical ability to carry up to 25 lbs., and valid driver's license necessary
