The Controller will help successfully navigate the company’s financial future and serve as a steward for the organization. As a member of the executive management team, this position will provide a strategic, high-level perspective to the organization’s financial and accounting needs and participate in building the organization’s capacity while managing the finances as it grows.  The Controller’s primary responsibility is for the overall planning, directing and coordinating of all financial activities to ensure a strong financial operation.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • A thorough knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, methods and practices, including GAAP and OMB Circular A-133 compliance requirements
  • Accredited Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting or finance
  • Knowledge and experience in Abila (Sage MIP) Accounting software
  • Non-profit organization, federal grant funds, or real estate development experience a plus
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible, financial management experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, extensive spreadsheet and reporting knowledge
  • Strategic thinker, creative approach to problem solving
  • Demonstrated research and analytical skills related to financial operations
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accurate results

Position Summary:             

  • Direct all financial and accounting functions for non-profit housing organization
  • Administer the fiscal operations, financial reporting, budgeting
  • Provide leadership, strategic support, financial planning and analysis
  • Interpret and analyze terms of complex real estate transactions, debt instruments and partnership agreements
  • Direct the preparation of audits and governmental reviews
  • Develop plans to adjust operations to respond to changing priorities and financial constraints
  • Analyze business lines to help create efficient, sustainable and mission driven divisions
  • Relevant human resources management

Position Details:

Accounting, Internal Controls & Audit Oversight

  • Ensure the organization is in compliance with all internal policies and relevant regulations and ensure filings are completed in a timely manner
  • Prepare and submit accurate documentation for grant contract reimbursements and bank loan draws on a regular basis to ensure adequate cash flow and compliance
  • Monitor all internal financial and accounting controls and oversee the annual external audit
  • Prepare the audit schedules, Schedule of Federal Awards (SEFA), payables and receivables reports, bank and donor confirmations for audit
  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll including appropriate deductions and payments to health, insurance providers
  • Review and approve accounts payable and invoice processing weekly and as needed
  • Prepare invoices and monitor accounts receivable

Budgeting, Financial Projections & Business Financial Modeling

  • Develop short-term and long-term projections based on programmatic assumptions
  • Develop detailed annual budget
  • Lead the annual business plan development and budgeting process
  • Report and track actual expenditures and deviations from the budget
  • Provide ongoing business financial modeling and analysis expertise to management and program staff

Cash Management & Risk Management

  • Monitor cash between accounts and manage cash flow
  • Develop cash flow forecasting and maintain a long term cash forecast
  • Track and monitor all debt to ensure sufficient cash to satisfy financial obligations

Reporting and & Financial Analysis

  • Prepare, analyze, report and produce monthly financial statements and fixed assets
  • Maintain all contracts from federal, financial and social grantors and prepare all necessary reports as required by each funding source
  • Produce program specific reports as needed by program staff
  • Assist President with presentations of financial and accounting data
  • Ensure financial management reporting processes are in place to support the ongoing and future needs of the company

Compensation Package:

  • Base salary of $80,000 – $90,000
  • Paid employee medical insurance per established health plan
  • 9 paid federal holidays
