For almost 40 years, Austin Street Center has specialized in caring for the most vulnerable homeless men and women in Dallas. Beyond meeting basic needs, Austin Street is committed to individualized care for each person who comes to us for help. Our goal is that every homeless person who comes to Austin Street Center finds hope, support, and the resources they need to transition out of homelessness.

 

 

Position Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Advancement Officer will lead a high-performance team with emphasis on directing all Advancement functions.  Among these, this role will provide leadership and oversight for fund development activities, community engagement, marketing, and volunteer management.  This senior level position requires a goal-oriented, results-driven individual who can work independently as well as collaborate and communicate throughout the organization while adeptly interacting with the organization’s leadership to determine and accomplish annual objectives.

 

The Chief Advancement Officer will lead an eight-person team: Sr. Development Officer for Foundation Relations, Sr. Development Officer Corporations & Social Enterprises, Director of Government Grants Administration, Director of Advancement Communications, Donor Relations Manager, Community Engagement Manager, Advancement Associate, and Special Events Manager. The Chief Advancement Officer will work closely with the CEO and other Director level team members to establish long-range goals, strategic plans, and policies that supports the accomplishment of Austin Street Center’s Strategic Plan and to provide information and recommendations that supports the Board’s policy making and oversight role. In addition to the CEO, the Chief Advancement Officer will collaborate regularly with Senior Leadership Team, including Chief Operations Officer, Senior Director of Client Solutions & Strategy, Senior Director of the Sisterhood Program and Spiritual Support, Senior Director of People, Controller, and Chief of Staff.

 

Your role will support the mission thorough the following actions:

Advancement Specific Functions:

  • Manage a personal donor portfolio, consisting of major donors, corporations and foundations alike.
  • Develop a strategy to continue to diversify donor base while retaining current donors.
  • Build a culture of philanthropy that maximizes its many volunteer and event opportunities, and shift the community’s paradigm on homelessness through awareness and education.
  • Achieve annual budget goals and provide monthly updates to leadership, addressing the objectives, strategies, and outcomes for all assigned fundraising activities.
  • Establish forecasts and prepare evaluations of fund-raising potential for all development activities by identifying and rating prospects, with special attention to those with highest potential.
  • Supervise and manage a fundraising team, including setting and reporting on goals.
  • Develop calendar and action plans for each Annual Fund campaign division: foundation, corporate, individuals, churches, government, and special events.
  • Oversee the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of new and existing donor relationships to secure monetary and in-kind support.
  • Develop and implement strategy for stewarding current and lapsed donors.
  • Develop a strategic plan to organize and produce an Endowment and Capital campaign.
  • Set priorities for advancement staff in order to implement campaign action plans, gauge results, and determine future courses of action.
  • Direct campaign summaries and management reports by division and activity on an ongoing basis by meeting with advancement staff and communicating regularly with volunteer committees.
  • Review and strengthen service benefits, privileges, recognition, acknowledgements and incentives for donors and volunteers to maintain and improve relations.
  • Maintain and raise the productivity of the volunteer program.
  • Launch an auxiliary committee, with direction from the Board of Directors, to support ongoing organizational and capital fundraising efforts, endowment, and young professionals.
  • Champion the vision and mission of Austin Street with all stakeholders.
  • In close coordination with the Director of Advancement Communications, plans and oversees advertising and promotion of organization mission position, brand, and culture.
  • Oversees and evaluates market research and adjusts marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners.
  • Establishes and maintains a consistent brand image throughout all product lines, promotional materials, and events.
  • Directs staffing, training, and performance evaluations to develop and control sales and marketing programs.

  • Able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients, staff, and community contacts and able to effectively address and resolve conflict as needed.
  • Ability to work respectfully with diverse teams, build consensus, and motivate change.

 

 

Skills / Knowledge Requirements:

  • Master’s degree or relevant experience.
  • 7+ years’ experience preferred.
  • Excellent organization and project management skills.
  • Working knowledge of donor database program, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT.
  • Familiarization with Abila MIP Accounting database a plus.
  • Knowledge of New Market Tax Credits a plus.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and makes appropriate, methodical and timely decisions.
  • Keen attention to detail and strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to deal with a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.
  • Demonstrates adaptability to performing a variety of duties, occasionally changing from one task to another of a different nature with minimal loss of efficiency or composure.
