The process of planning or developing new programs is complex for many nonprofit organizations, as they need to negotiate with limited resources, challenging field realities, and expectations from stakeholders. Needs and Resource Assessment is a useful approach that can help organizations make better decisions about their interventions and justify their programs based on hard evidence. It involves determining target groups, level of needs, and resources available to address the gaps. The process and the findings of such assessments can help organizations sharpen the focus of their programs, allocate resources efficiently and, in the longer run, create impact among constituencies they serve. Participants of this seminar will learn how needs and resources should be defined and determined. They will learn how to conduct a needs and resource assessment using a three-phase approach and will get introduced to specific methods, tools and techniques that can be used.
This seminar aims to help participants working with nonprofit organizations gain understanding about needs and resource assessment, particularly if they are in the process of planning new programs or reworking existing programs. After attending the seminar, participants would have:
- Developed an understanding about the purpose of needs and resource assessment, when and why it should be done.
- Become familiar with three phases of needs and resource assessment and the various methods, tools, and techniques that can be applied.
- Learned how to plan and conduct a needs and resources assessment within their organization.
