Data Collection Planning for Program Evaluation

There are wide varieties of data collection tools available for use in program evaluation, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. Determining which type of data collection tool to use will be based on the specific goals, needs, and resources of your program. In this seminar, you will learn the different types of available data collection tools, the benefits and drawbacks of those tools, and determine which tools are best suited to measure progress toward your program’s goals. We will also share information on how to develop, update, and implement a data management plan – a detailed document that describes the strategies and policies for the collection, storage, and analysis of data for a project or program.

After attending this seminar you will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of planning and documenting data collection processes
  • Identify different types of data collection methods and when to utilize them
  • Identify ways to use a data management plan
  • Create and update a data management plan
  • Successfully implement data management plans

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Guillermo Villalobos

Guillermo Villalobos is an Outcomes and Evaluation Consultant with CNM. He has over eight years of experience leading research projects at the University level, and over three years of experience in research and evaluation work with non-profit organizations and government agencies. He is experienced in study design, quantitative and qualitative research methods, tool development, data collection and management, report writing, and presenting results to experts and the general public. He has also published in peer-reviewed and other professional journals, and has presented his research at professional conferences. Mr. Villalobos is a member of the American Evaluation Association and the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues. Mr. Villalobos holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Interdisciplinary Social Psychology from University of Nevada, Reno, Master of Arts in General-Experimental Psychology from California State University, San Bernardino, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of California, Riverside.
