Company Information

About Us: With more than 100 years of combined experience at theaters and comedy training centers, the founders of Stomping Ground were inspired to create the first nonprofit comedy theater in Dallas. This model allows the theater and training center to focus on how to best serve students, patrons, and the local community. In addition to improv, sketch, and stand-up comedy education, Stomping Ground serves populations with unique needs through our therapeutic Improv for Life program.

More About Improv For Life: Improv affects a range of human emotions and life skills, and promotes emotional and mental health. Mindfulness, communication skills, social skills, emotional regulation, self-awareness, and interpersonal connections are a few of the many gains embedded in the process of learning improv. As the benefits of improv on the brain continue to emerge, mental health professionals and improv theaters all over the world have created therapeutic programs. Stomping Ground’s IFL program is led by Licensed Professional Counselor, Andrea K. Baum and currently serves people with Anxiety/Social Anxiety, Autism (both teens and adults), brain injuries, Alzheimer's and dementia, and their caregivers. Stomping Ground's Improv for Life program is the first of its kind in Dallas.

A Note on Diversity & Accessibility: As an organization, Stomping Ground values inclusion of all individuals as well as utilizing outreach to bring more diverse populations into the improv and comedy communities. As a result, the organization is dedicated to offering Diversity and Outreach scholarships as well as internships to make the training center programs more accessible to a wider audience. Continuing accessibility is another important pillar of the organization’s work, and Stomping Ground believes it is vital to seek out opportunities to offer free or low cost Improv for Life programming for our community in order to ensure that all individuals have access to the therapeutic benefits of improv.
